Over the weekend, India and the UAE signed pacts to allow settlement of bilateral trade in local currencies and also interlink our Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with the UAE’s Instant Payment Platform (IPP). They also agreed to link payment card switches. Linking UPI with IPP will make transfers of money across the Arabian Sea far easier, a matter of a few keystrokes on a phone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day France visit, on Thursday announced that India’s UPI would now work in France. Addressing the Indian diaspora in a glittering event in Paris, PM Modi said that India’s Unified Payments Interface will now be active in France starting with iconic Eiffel Tower. In simple terms this means that Indian visitors would be able to make payments in France in Indian rupee.

Narendra Modi, in a significant announcement, has declared that Indian students pursuing a master's degree in France will now be granted an extended post-study visa lasting five years, as opposed to the previous two-year work visa.  PM Modi made this announcement during his address to the Indian community at LA Seine Musicale in Paris, where he was warmly welcomed by the attendees. This change in visa policy aims to facilitate opportunities for Indian students in France. France announced that the two countries have agreed to adopt India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for faster payments. «India and France have agreed to use UPI in France. In the coming days, it will begin from the Eiffel Tower which means Indian tourists will now be able to pay in rupees,» said PM Modi while addressing the diaspora in France.
