Modernizing ships to maintain our position in international market: G Sivakumar, GE Shipping
«It is good if this can come up and with a good network of ports and connectivity. We are there to meet that requirement if it comes up. Second, your question was on where do we buy our ships from? We buy our ships in the second-hand market. We do not issue equity as a company and we have strict balance sheet criteria with regard to how much debt we take,» says G Sivakumar, ED & CFO, GE Shipping. I want to talk about your recently sold that older MR product tanker and took delivery of comparatively younger MR product tanker as well. Tell me, what kind of efficiencies does it really bring on the table for you with regards to financials? Also, are you anticipating any further changes in your fleet? G Sivakumar: Yes, we have been doing these transactions now for the last nine months. We have already sold out four ships, which are among the older vessels, and we have replaced them with slightly more modern ships of the same kind. This is twofold.

New York pitch for India-Pakistan T20 WC clash receives "satisfactory" rating by ICC
ICC T20 World Cup match in New York between arch-rivals India and Pakistan has received a «satisfactory» rating from the governing body of the sport. The highly-anticipated match between these two arch-rivals at New York's Nassau County International Stadium was a low-scoring thriller. After being cleaned up for 119 runs, with Rishabh Pant scoring 42, Pakistan could manage only 113/7 in their quota of 20 overs, with Jasprit Bumrah bowling a game-changing spell of 3/14 in four overs. The drop-in pitches in New York were under scrutiny throughout the tournament because of low-scoring matches and uneven, unpredictable bounce. During the Sri-Lanka South Africa clash, SL could score only 77 runs in 19.1 overs and SA chased down the target in 16.2 overs.

India's audit standard loophole that has professionals in a fix
New Delhi: An innocuous piece of India's audit rules has come under scrutiny, after several alleged audit lapses that paved the road to spectacular business bust-ups were traced back to it. However, fixing it could be tricky, audit industry executives said. When a company raises money from the public and transfers it to a subsidiary, and further to the company's promoters, the diversion may go unnoticed in audits.

At RBI’s door for reprieve: Bunch of foreign banks want ease of storing data, ask for mandate to be applied prospectively from Jan 2025
foreign banks that operate in the country have approached the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) seeking prospective application of the guidelines on mandatory local storage of payments data from January 2025 with regard to information that’s already kept overseas. They have also sought a reprieve from any regulatory action until then. These guidelines, issued in 2018, mandate that all payment system data related to customers in the country must be stored solely in India. “Some foreign lenders have pressed for a prospective compliance date starting January 2025 to ensure all lenders can meet the regulations,” a senior foreign bank executive said, confirming a meeting with RBI officials on the data localisation issue.

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams are stuck in space
Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams have been informed that they might not be rescued until February 2025. They are stranded on the International Space Station, more than 200 miles from Earth. The Boeing Starliner spacecraft that carried the American pair into space in June had helium leaks, so they will now have to spend eight months there instead of the originally scheduled eight days mission. In order to determine whether it is safe for them to return on the Boeing or if they will need to use one of Elon Musk's SpaceX vehicles, which are expected to arrive in February, the US space agency NASA is currently conducting tests. It's also not easy to live on the Space Station. Nine people are currently sharing the ISS's six sleeping quarters and two bathrooms. The scant supplies of water and food that come from Earth need to be handled with care.
