I got Rs 1.5 crore? It’s ridiculous: Badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa rejects claims that she received financial assistance from govt
Ashwini Ponnappa on Tuesday said she received little to no individual financial assistance from the sports ministry in the build up to Paris Olympics and even her request for a coach was turned down ahead of the just-concluded Games. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) had come out with a document, detailing the financial support provided to the Paris-bound Indian athletes. It mentions that Ashwini was provided Rs 4,50,000 under TOPS and Rs 1,48,04,080 under Annual calender for Training and Competition (ACTC), which included the procurement of Game Ready recovery equipment, international competitions and sparring partner in the Tokyo cycle. «I'm absolutely shocked… I don't mind not getting money but telling the nation that I got money is ridiculous. I haven't received it. Like if you're talking about national camp, then that 1.5 Crore is spent on all the campers,» Ashwini told PTI.

Bangladesh unrest: Indian Coast Guard deploys aircraft, hovercraft for maritime border surveillance
Indian Coast Guard (ICG)'s aircraft and hovercrafts along with other vessels are carrying out surveillance operations along the maritime boundary with Bangladesh to prevent an illegal influx into India amid escalating unrest and the collapse of the government in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is experiencing a volatile political situation, with Sheikh Hasina resigning from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 amid mounting protests. The protests, led mainly by students demanding an end to a quota system for government jobs, evolved into anti-government demonstrations. In response to the heightened tensions in the neighbouring country, the ICG has strengthened security along the international maritime boundary line to prevent any illegal intrusions into India.

China’s oil-demand growth slowdown weighs on global outlook, IEA says
Global oil-demand growth is still forecast to slow to under a million barrels a day this year and next, with a continued slowdown in Chinese consumption weighing on the outlook, the International Energy Agency said. Oil surplus looms if OPEC+ hikes supply, IEA data show
Global oil markets are poised to swing from a deficit to a surplus next quarter should OPEC+ proceed with plans to boost supplies, data from the International Energy Agency showed. Oil inventories are currently depleting as a result of peak summer driving demand, but should stabilize in the final quarter of the year, the Paris-based agency said in a report. That would likely tip into an overhang if the OPEC+ cartel presses ahead with provisional plans to bring back idled output starting in October, the report indicated. Oil consumption in China, the biggest importer, fell for a third month in June, the IEA said.

ECB, Cricket Scotland in talks over Team Great Britain in LA Olympics
England Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Scotland opened the talks of introducing the Great Britain (GB) men's and women's teams for the next Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Cricket is brought to the marquee event for the first time since 1900 and the decision to bring it back came last year. The details of the event are not yet confirmed but the International Cricket Council (ICC) has suggested a six-team tournament for both the categories. The tournament will be played for a week and the matches for the teams are likely to take place consecutively rather than «With the Los Angeles Olympics four years away, it's very early stages, but we're talking to Team GB and Cricket Scotland about the next steps we need to take. Once again Great Britain's Olympians have captured the national imagination with their exploits in Paris this year, and we look forward to working together to compete when cricket returns to the Olympic stage in 2028,» an ECB spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo.
