CBI sleuths on Friday searched the residence of suspended TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh in Sandeshkhali in connection with its probe into an attack on an ED team in the area, officials said. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also visited areas near his house in Akunchipara locality of Sarberia to collect evidence in connection with the attack. Sheikh, who has been suspended from the ruling Trinamool Congress, was arrested in a case related to a mob attack on ED officials at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on January 5 when the central agency had gone to search his premises in connection with an alleged ration distribution scam. The CBI team was also joined by forensic and ED officials to support the investigation.

Tax Officials under goods and service tax (GST) has busted a syndicate that fraudulently claimed Input Tax Credit of over Rs 1,000 crore through a network of 232 fake firms. The investigation was initiated by the anti evasion branch of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissionerate, Meerut in October 2023 which detected that a large syndicate was fraudulently claiming Input Tax Credit (ITC) by way of fake billing. «The investigation conducted so far has revealed that a total number of 232 fake firms, with 91 firms registered on a single mobile number, are registered at various places across the country and have passed an inadmissible ITC of around Rs. 1,048 crore. Total value of goods shown to be supplied through these firms is around Rs. 5,842 crore,» the finance ministry said in a statement.

Ottawa Police Service says the homicide unit has been called in after multiple people were found dead inside a home in the west-end Ottawa suburb of Barrhaven on Wednesday night.Police said they were called to an address on Berrigan Drive at around 11 p.m.Six people were found dead — four children and two adults, police said.Their identities have not yet been released.Police said one person was taken into custody and that there is no threat to public safety.“This is a tragic and complex investigation, and investigative teams remain on Berrigan Drive,” police said.Investigators said more information will be made available later in the day.Anyone with information is asked to contact Ottawa police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.OPS is on the scene of a homicide, in the 300 block of Berrigan Dr., with multiple victims confirmed deceased.
