NEW DELHI : Increasing use of labour-saving technologies such as robotics and artificial intelligence in manufacturing warrants creation of more jobs in agriculture and allied sectors, where new opportunities are emerging, according to NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand. The idea of labour transition from agriculture to industry was envisaged in the model of economic growth pioneered by British economist Arthur Lewis but the emerging opportunities for job creation in the evolving agriculture sector needs to be explored given that manufacturing is becoming less labour-intensive with adoption of technology, Chand said in an interview. “That (transition of labour from farm sector to industry) was the earlier model of Arthur Lewis.

Tata Motors’ plans to bifurcate the fossil-fuel based and EV biz take off as EV volumes expand
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd (TPEML), the EV arm of Tata Motors, will start selling electric vehicles through dedicated sales channels in select cities over the next few months and have a shop-in-shop concept at its existing sales channels. The TPG Rise-backed firm will also commence making internal combustion engine (ICE) models and EVs at its Sanand plant in 2024 as part of Tata Motors’ plans to clearly bifurcate the ICE and EV business, the company’s top executive said. TPEML acquired Ford India’s Sanand plant in August 2022 and completed the acquisition in January 2023 for Rs 725.7 crore. The Sanand plant has a manufacturing capacity of 3 lakh units per annum is scalable to 4.2 lakh units per annum. “The Sanand 2 plant will get operationalized next year.

Lupin Ltd on Monday said it has received approval from the US health regulator to market its generic Fluconazole tablets used in the treatment of fungal infections. The approval granted by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for the abbreviated new drug application of Fluconazole tablets in strengths of 50 mg, 100 mg, 150 mg and 200 mg, Lupin said in a regulatory filing.

Vedanta CFO likely to quit months after joining firm: Report
Vedanta Ltd. may lose its third chief financial officer in as many years just as the mining conglomerate controlled by billionaire Anil Agarwal heads into an ambitious restructuring of its businesses, according to people familiar with the matter. Sonal Shrivastava, who joined the company in June, informed Agarwal about her decision to leave last month, the people said, asking not to be named as the information is not public. Agarwal is talking with finance professionals who had earlier stints in the group to replace her, and a decision is expected as early as this week, they said. Shrivastava’s departure will add to Agarwal’s woes as his holding company, Vedanta Resources Ltd., faces about $3 billion of bond repayments in the next two years.
