Rajeev Chandrasekhar challenges Tharoor for debate on development of Thiruvananthapuram
Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday challenged his Congress counterpart, Shashi Tharoor for a debate on the development of Thiruvananthapuram. Chandrasekhar accused Tharoor of spreading misinformation during a recent interview with the Kerala-based news organization where he falsely accused Chandrasekhar of offering money to religious leaders and key voters in the constituency. In his post on X Rajeev said, «We have been debating in multiple forums during the last two weeks, and people have seen you struggle for answers to my questions on these occasions. Forced into a defensive mode, you chose to disseminate falsehoods that not only defamed me but also besmirched numerous social and religious organizations within my constituency. Therefore, to start with, you need to answer the following questions I have posed to you.»

UN human rights body calls for halt to weapons shipments to Israel as concerns about Gaza war mount
Israel in a resolution passed Friday that aims to help prevent rights violations against Palestinians amid Israel's blistering military campaign in Gaza. The 47-member-country Human Rights Council voted 28-6 in favor of the resolution, with 13 abstentions. The sweeping measure takes aim at an array of Israeli actions such as impeding access to water and limiting shipments of humanitarian aid into Palestinian areas. It also calls on U.N.-backed independent investigators to report on shipments of weapons, munitions and «dual use» items — that have both civilian and military applications — that could be used by Israel against Palestinians.

US announces extension of work permits for some categories of immigrants
Immigration Services (USCIS) has unveiled a temporary final rule (TFR) to make work permits more accessible to immigrants. This move builds upon recent efforts to modernize immigration processes, particularly regarding eligibility for employment authorization documents (EADs). Under the new rule, the automatic 180-day period for certain EADs will be extended to 540 days. This decision follows substantial improvements in EAD processing times over the past year, ensuring that work-authorized noncitizens do not face interruptions in their employment status while awaiting USCIS decisions on EAD renewal applications. By extending the validity period of EADs, the USCIS aims to maintain continuity for both immigrants and US employers. The Biden Administration has been actively working to integrate work-authorized individuals into the labor force, thereby supporting local economies.

If crude goes above $90, should equity markets begin to feel the heat? Anand Tandon answers
Anand Tandon, Independent Analyst, says “going forward, oil is something that one needs to watch out for. We should be expecting an increase in energy costs because of the fact that despite subdued production, despite the fact that there are global issues which are preventing free flow of oil, despite all of that, the prices were remaining well under control and we had significant cutback in terms of production, I think that will now begin to show up in higher prices as we are already seeing.” It seems the markets are ignoring what is happening in the commodity universe so far. Do you think if crude goes above $90, the equity markets will begin to feel the heat? Anand Tandon: Well, yes, there is no doubt that if the oil prices were to continue to sustain higher, there will be some pressure on the economy. For now, at least, the quarter that has just ended will actually show commodity prices being relatively lower and therefore, most of the manufacturing companies will show increased operating margin.
