Hit-and-run law: All you need to know about nationwide protest by truckers In the video, Kanyal can be heard asking the protestors to avoid taking the law into their own hands, to which a representative replied by asking the collector to “talk nicely". The response sent Kanyal into a rage and he retorted with, “kya karoge tum? kya aukat hain tunhari?" (Translation: What will you do? What is your social standing/status?) The representative then said that their protest was for this lack of ‘aukat’.

Indian tea exports hit a trough during April-November 2023
NEW DELHI : India saw a slump in its tea export earnings during April-November 2023 amid regulatory challenges in Iran, a large market, and due to the ongoing Ukraine crisis impacting exports to the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) and Western European region, latest data from the commerce ministry showed. India exported tea worth $531.63 million between April and November 2023, down from $562 million in the year-ago period, according to official data from the Niryat Portal. Geopolitical disturbances, especially in Middle East and Ukraine, subdued economic conditions along with a drop in export prices have led to a decline in export earnings for the commodity, experts said.

Tesla Sets Quarterly Record but Loses Top EV Spot to BYD in 2023
Quiver Quantitative — Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) wrapped up 2023 with a record-setting fourth quarter, delivering 494,989 electric vehicles, yet it couldn't retain its position as the leading EV manufacturer, surpassed by China's BYD (SZ:002594). Despite achieving a remarkable annual production of 1.85 million units, Tesla fell short of CEO Elon Musk's goal of 2 million. In comparison, BYD, bolstered by Warren Buffett's backing, surpassed Tesla with 526,409 deliveries in the fourth quarter, reflecting a consumer shift towards more affordable EV options in an economy burdened by high interest rates.

'Over 15% of medicines made by small companies are of poor quality'
medicines produced by small companies in India failed to meet quality standards compared with the national average of about 2%, says a government report on a recent survey. In the government's latest risk-based inspections of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which have been on since December 2022, of the 271 samples analysed, 41 (15.1%) were declared to be not of standard quality (NSQ), says the report, which has been reviewed by ET. A person in the know said 30% of the MSME units inspected were issued a stop production order (SPO). «A strong correlation has been seen between the NSQ and MSME units,» the person said. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), along with state drug inspectors, has been carrying out inspections as part of a nationwide crackdown on spurious and substandard drugs. At present, phase IV of risk-based inspections is on. «Monthly NSQ data shows repeat failures for a company with the same product, and same product with multiple companies month-on-month,» another person said. India's drug regulator had earlier pointed to an urgent need to review the good manufacturing practices (GMP) regulations and quality management systems being followed by pharmaceutical companies during the inspections. In August last year, health minister Mansukh Mandaviya had announced that companies with a turnover of '250 crore and more will have to implement the revised GMP within six months. Medium and small-scale enterprises with a turnover of less than '250 crore will have to implement it within a year.

RBL sells ₹800-crore stressed credit card loans to Kotak Bank
RBL Bank last week offloaded almost ₹800 crore of its credit card portfolio at a steep discount to another private sector lender, Kotak Mahindra Bank, said people with direct knowledge of the matter. Credit card repayment delays account for about one-fifth of the total gross non-performing assets (NPA) of RBL Bank, which is seeking to clean up its books after a change of guard at the private lender that lost more than 50% in its market capitalisation over the past five years. Of the RBL Bank's ₹2,441-crore gross NPA, credit card dues total ₹462 crore, as of September 30, 2023, according to the quarterly investor presentation. The ₹793-crore portfolio sold by RBL is a mix of credit card outstandings as non-performing assets and written-off card dues, said one of the persons cited above. Kotak Mahindra Bank acquired the credit card portfolio for ₹20 crore in an all-cash deal, which equates to a recovery of 2.5% for RBL Bank, the same person said. RBL Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank did not respond to ET's requests for comments until Tuesday press time. Once the portfolio is transferred to Kotak Mahindra Bank, the credit card customers will be intimated about the transfer. The acquiring bank will reach out to these customers to recover the outstanding dues. Credit card loans, 42% of RBL Bank's retail loan book, have grown rapidly in the last two years.
