Bizarre! Singapore's entitlement certificate to own car is equal to buying 4 Toyota Camry Hybrids in US
Reuters, a car buyer in Singapore must bid for a certificate that now costs $106,000 ( ₹88,23,493) citing post-pandemic recovery -- which has driven up the cost of the city-state's vehicle quota system to all-time highs. This amount is equivalent to buying four Toyota Camry Hybrids in the United States. Introduced in 1990, Singapore has a 10-year "certificate of entitlement" (COE) system to control the number of vehicles in the small country.

Also Read: Inclusion of Indian bonds in JPMorgan bond index to have limited impact on Indian bonds, rupee, says ASK Wealth Strong economic data in the US and hawkish comments from the US Federal Reserve officials have raised bets that the interest rates will remain higher for longer, leading to a spike in bond yields. US job openings unexpectedly rose in August, pointing to tight labor market conditions that could compel the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates next month, with the odds rising above 30%, Reuters reported.

India aims to safeguard steel trade interests from EU carbon levy
India's government has assured domestic steelmakers that it is looking at ways to address their concerns about the EU's planned tariffs on imports of high-carbon goods and is discussing the issue with its European counterparts, a government official said. «We are discussing with stakeholders and continuing to look at ways in which India's trade interests in steel could be safeguarded,» Nagendra Nath Sinha, the most senior civil servant at the federal Ministry of Steel, told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday. "(India's) government has raised its concerns at both bilateral and multilateral levels with the EU," he said, adding the tariffs would impact India's steel exports. The European Union this year approved the world's first plan to impose tariffs on imports of high-carbon goods including steel and cement as part of its aim to reach net zero greenhouse emissions by 2050. The proposal has caused widespread unease among top exporters of commodities such as steel to the EU. India's industry officials have warned that exports worth billions of dollars would face steep tariffs. The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) through which the EU plans to impose the tariffs ranging from 20% to 35% comes into effect from 2026. Exporters to the European Union will then need to purchase certificates to cover carbon emissions to put foreign producers on a level footing with EU industries that must buy permits from the bloc's carbon market when they pollute. Research group Wood Mackenzie in a recent report said that by 2034, the cost of India's steel exports to the EU would rise by 56% due to CBAM. As part of an initial phase of the CBAM, the 27-nation bloc has already asked EU importers to report the greenhouse gas

6 things that changed for the stock market overnight - Gift Nifty to spike in US treasury yields
Sensex declined 316 points to end at 65,512, while the Nifty 50 fell 110 points to 19,529 on Tuesday. “Given the global concerns of more US rate hikes along with 16-year high US 10-year bond yield and 7-month high Dollar Index, the sentiments remain dented and thus is resulting in profit booking. In the near term, we expect this weakness to persist with stock-specific action," said Siddhartha Khemka, Head - Retail Research, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar Killing: Keep embassy staff equal, Canada told
India has asked Canada to reduce its number of diplomats across its missions in the country and repatriate 41 diplomats by early next week, saying it would revoke their diplomatic immunity if they stayed after the given date. This comes just weeks after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations of a «potential» involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June. While the Indian government is yet to issue a statement on its latest move, sources have indicated to ET that the decision to ask Canada to reduce its diplomats by October 10 is aimed at bringing the strength of Indian missions and Canadian missions on par. Indian missions in Canada have around 21 diplomats and the Canadian missions in India currently have 62 diplomats. Meanwhile, Trudeau went on the backfoot on Tuesday and said that his government was «not looking to escalate the situation» with India.

India asks producers for 'sensitivity' as oil price hovers near $90
ABU DHABI : India, the world's third-biggest oil importer, on Tuesday urged producers to show "sensitivity" towards consuming countries, hit by prices largely trading above $90 a barrel since Saudi Arabia and Russia decided to extend voluntary cuts to year-end. "During pandemic, when crude oil prices crashed, the world came together to stabilize the prices to make it sustainable for the producers," Indian oil minister Hardeep Singh Puri, in Abu Dhabi to attend an industry conference, said after a meeting with OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais.
