India-Canada ties hit a new low as trade minister Mary Ng postpones India trip
India and Canada have hit a new low as Canadian trade minister Mary Ng has 'postponed' a planned trade mission to Mumbai next month without giving any explanation. The move comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's not-so-happy trip to India for the G20 Summit this month that also involved an extended stay here due to a snag in his flight. Ng was to come to Mumbai on October 9 along with Canadian businesses for a five-day trip known as a 'Team Canada' trade mission to revive bilateral trade talks that are currently paused, review trade ties, and meet industry representatives. «At this time, we are postponing the upcoming trade mission to India,» a spokesperson for the minister said without giving a reason, as per a Reuters report. The relationship between Canada and India has been showing signs of strain in recent times with the Trudeau government taking limited steps to address India's concerns over anti-India activities in Canada. Last Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed India's concerns to Trudeau following the G20 Summit here. Officials here said extremist elements in Canada are promoting secessionism and inciting violence against Indian diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and threatening the Indian community in Canada and their places of worship. They said the nexus of such forces with organised crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should be a concern for Canada as well. Modi had told Trudeau that it is essential for the two countries to cooperate in dealing with such threats.

Audi wants to launch more electric vehicles in India but it has a condition
Audi's India unit said on Friday that any potential cut down on electric vehicle (EV) import taxes would help the German carmaker experiment better with models and pricing in the world's third-largest car market. «If we get a window of three to five years where the government is able to reduce the duties, it will let us experiment what models make sense for India and help in terms of pricing points,» Audi India head Balbir Singh Dhillon told Reuters on the sidelines of a showroom launch in Bengaluru. Reuters reported last month that the Indian government is working on a new EV policy that would slash import taxes for automakers that commit to some local manufacturing.

Saudi Arabia to raise $11 billion from syndicated loan
syndicated loan as the kingdom seeks to finance its investment plans, Bloomberg News reported on Friday. The kingdom's Ministry of Finance has appointed Industrial & Commercial Bank of China Ltd (ICBC) as coordinator and bookrunner for the long-term senior unsecured loan, the report said citing people familiar with the matter. The 10-year loan is offering an interest rate of 100 basis points over the Secured Overnight Financing Rate — the usual reference rate when borrowing in dollars, the report added. ICBC has invited other banks to participate in the loan and has asked interested parties to respond before mid-October, Bloomberg reported. Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Finance and ICBC did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Personally spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia has embarked on an ambitious economic plan. known as Vision 2030 to diversify into sectors such as tourism, develop massive infrastructure projects, and grow the financial and private sectors. Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund, has been tasked with delivering Vision 2030 targets, which requires billions in investment.
