Japan's Takeda in regulatory talks to launch dengue vaccine in India
Takeda Pharmaceutical is holding talks with Indian regulators to make its dengue vaccine available in the country, the drugmaker's global head of vaccines, Gary Dubin, told Reuters on Tuesday. «We are in talks with regulators and plan to start a clinical trial very soon,» said Dubin. The Japanese drugmaker plans to scale up the production of its dengue vaccine Qdenga through a partnership with Indian vaccine maker Biological E., the companies said earlier in the day.

Bristol Myers Squibb aims to expand its research and development presence in India and expects its newly inaugurated Hyderabad facility to become its largest unit outside the U.S. by 2025, CEO Christopher Boerner said on Tuesday. The $100-million facility, inaugurated by Boerner on Monday, is expected to employ over 1,500 employees and will be used to enhance its drug development through the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, he said in his keynote speech at the BioAsia conference. Bristol Myers also operates a research and development centre in Bengaluru in partnership with the Biocon Group's Syngene International.

McDonald's cheese crackdown: Maharashtra to inspect global fast-food chains

The Indian state will run a check for misleading promotion of non-cheese items as containing cheese after mcdonald's crackdown and also inspect all McDonald's outlets in Maharashtra for the same, widening its scrutiny post crackdown by the state's Food and Drug Administration (FDA). «We are planning to check all outlets of McDonald's,» Abhimanyu Kale, the FDA chief told Reuters. «We will also take action on other well-known and frequently visited global fast-food chain outlets,» he added, but declined to identify the brands being targeted.

Reuters, citing Spain's Higher Council for Scientific Investigation (CSIC) said on Sunday, “This discovery demonstrates for the first time that the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza virus has reached Antarctica despite the distance and natural barriers that separate it from other continents." CSIC further added that the presence of the virus was confirmed on Saturday in samples of dead skua seabirds that were found by Argentine scientists near the Antarctic base Primavera.
