Congress rendered financially handicapped through tax terror: Jairam Ramesh on freezing of party bank accounts
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Saturday accused the BJP-led government of conducting a "surgical strike" on his party by freezing its bank accounts ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, saying it was rendered «economically handicapped» through "tax terror". Addressing a press conference here as part of Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, he also alleged that the ruling party was illegally collecting funds through electoral bonds. The Congress' main bank accounts were frozen last month over an income tax demand of Rs 210 crore. «BJP has done a surgical strike on Congress by freezing its bank accounts ahead of the general elections. We have no money to fight polls or prepare our election campaign. Even the money collected through crowd funding cannot be used. Congress has been made economically handicapped through tax terror,» Ramesh alleged.

Meta on Friday won an appeal overturning a previous court ruling that barred it from using its name in Brazil due to confusion with another company. Mark Zuckerberg's tech company was in late February ordered to stop using its name in Brazil within 30 days after a Brazilian computer services provider won a favourable ruling arguing it already owned rights to the name and had as a result of the U.S. branding been wrongly cited in over 100 lawsuits.

Not just polls: Fifty shades of democracy
Elections are in the air. Whether it's India's that's around the corner, Russia's currently underway, or Britain's and America's this winter, democracies take pride in conducting elections — even when some do it less freely and fairly than others. Incumbent Vladimir Putin, for instance, will be declared victor for the fifth — and third consecutive — time.

Power of prayers
prayers form a significant part of religious practices across faiths, worldwide. They are not considered mere rituals. Prayers are poetic expressions of devotion as can be seen in the Upanishads, Ramayan, Mahabharat, Puranas and many other scriptures. In the Bhagwad Gita chapter on Yog of Knowledge and Wisdom, seekers are classified into four categories, revealing multiple reasons for turning to prayers, such as distress, material desires, curiosity and the quest for genuine wisdom. Yet, it is essential to discern that prayers are a means to an end, not the culmination of one's journey. Effort is the silent companion that transforms the latent power of prayers into tangible outcomes. As the petals of devotion unfurl, the soul embarks on a journey beyond the immediate, seeking connection beyond the physical realm.

How India's top 10 small cap mutual funds stand on liquidity stress test
MUMBAI : India's top small-cap fund managers will require substantial time, in some cases up to 30 days, to liquidate a quarter of their portfolios during market upheavals, as revealed by stress tests conducted by various fund houses. Fund houses would likely need between six days and 30 days to exit a quarter of their small-cap portfolio, and 12-60 days to liquidate half of the portfolio. If a fund takes longer than two to three days to return investors' money, it suggests stress in the portfolio.
