With the war in West Asia stretching on, estimates of its economic damage have begun to emerge. markets COST UPS Ripple Manufacturing reports Trump tariffs threaten India’s slowdown-hit auto parts makers
Donald Trump’s looming import tariffs ripple through global car manufacturing. Trump had initially taken aim at fully assembled vehicles, with a 25% import duty set to take effect on April 3, but additional levies on car parts such as engines, transmissions and electrical systems are slated to begin by May 3. That’s kicked off frantic lobbying by major carmakers Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co. and Stellantis NV to get certain components excluded, and left Indian suppliers stuck in limbo. The US is the biggest market for India’s auto parts exports, accounting for almost a third of the $21.2 billion industry in the year ended March 31, 2024. The local passenger vehicle market has been tepid with growth expected at just 2% for the year ending March 2026, Partho Banerjee, senior executive director at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. told reporters on Tuesday.

Ripple Discover Justice reports Department Courts rowing CJI Khanna forms committee to probe allegations of cash discovery from Justice Varma’s home
Justice Yashwant Varma's residence. Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma was on Friday at the centre of a huge row over reports of alleged cash discovery from his official home after a fire incident following which its chief justice initiated an in-house inquiry against him and the Supreme Court clarified the move to transfer him was not linked to the probe. After reports emerged that Justice Varma, 56, was being repatriated to Allahabad High Court in the wake of the alleged cash discovery, the Supreme Court came out with a clarification that the proposal to transfer him was «independent and separate from the in-house enquiry procedure». Justice Varma, who is the second senior-most judge in the Delhi High Court, was appointed to the court on October 11, 2021. The purported discovery of the huge stash of cash happened following a fire at Varma's Lutyens Delhi residence at around 11.35 pm on March 14, prompting the Delhi fire department personnel to rush to the spot and douse it. The quantum of the alleged discovered amount was also not known. The incident created ripples in the legal circuit, with many voices calling for the judge's resignation. Some also criticised the move only to transfer him.

markets Ripple XRP SEC security Bitcoin 2020 XRP price surges 11% as SEC drops appeal – Is a new high coming?
XRP, the cryptocurrency associated with Ripple Labs, experienced a significant surge, reaching $2.52, following the US Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) decision to withdraw its appeal against the company. This development marks a pivotal victory for Ripple and has notably boosted investor confidence in XRP. The SEC initiated a lawsuit against Ripple in December 2020, alleging that the company had conducted an unregistered securities offering worth $1.3 billion through the sale of XRP tokens. This legal action had cast a long-standing shadow over XRP's market performance. However, the SEC's recent decision to drop its appeal effectively removes a major regulatory obstacle, allowing Ripple to operate with greater clarity and assurance.

markets UPS Digital Ripple wellness Trade Bitcoin Trump's move to create a BTC reserve might make crypto lucrative, but should you fall for the hype, and ignore regulatory confusion?
Donald Trump to create a “strategic Bitcoin reserve and digital assets stockpile” has sent the crypto enthusiasts in India into a tizzy. Hoping to cash in on what they believe could be the next big rally, they have led a surge in trading volumes, with CoinDCX reporting a 36% hike and Mudrex registering a 30% spike. While the reserve will only include Bitcoin, already owned by the US government, not acquired or actively bought, the digital asset stockpile will consist of tokens other than the Bitcoin—Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Ripple (XRP), and Cardano (ADA), which will also not be acquired. The announcement is significant because it’s the first time that Bitcoin has been recognised as a reserve asset of the US government. “This sends a powerful message to the world about how blockchain and digital assets are becoming mainstream,” says Sumit Gupta, co-founder of CoinDCX. Agrees Edul Patel, Co-founder of Mudrex: “There is a strong future for crypto and Bitcoin globally, not just in the US.”

Investment Grade Index, a key measure of credit risk for top-rated borrowers, widened by 2.06 basis points to 53.54, marking the highest level of US credit risk in 2025, according to a Bloomberg report. When this index rises, it signals that investors see higher risks in lending to these companies. Meanwhile, the Markit CDX North American High Yield Index, which tracks riskier borrowers, dropped by 0.5 points to 106.4, its lowest point in six months. As per Bloomberg, unlike the investment-grade index, this one falls when credit risk increases, showing that investors are becoming more cautious about lending to lower-rated companies.
