Karnataka new traffic rule: Get ready to pay Rs 1,000 traffic fine if you don't have this
Karnataka who do not have High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on their vehicles will soon face penalties ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that enforcement of this rule will begin in early October, around 15 days from now. HSRP numbers have been installed in just 53 lakh vehicles out of the over 2 crore older vehicles in the state. The Karnataka Transport Department issued a notification in August 2023, making HSRP mandatory for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. Initially, a three-month deadline was set, but due to a lack of response from vehicle owners and other factors like the Lok Sabha elections, the deadline was extended multiple times. The issue also reached the Karnataka High Court, and the last deadline was set for September 15. «While adjourning the case for hearing recently, the HC did not give any direction on further extending the deadline for the installation of HSRP. Instead of immediately imposing a penalty, the department would give 15 days' time for the motorists to follow the rule; thereafter, the enforcement activities will start (in early October),» said Minister Reddy.

Rich non-doms are unlikely to mount a mass exodus from UK
wealthy individuals warning that the change will cause an exodus of the super-rich. A survey this month showed that abolition could cost the country almost £1 billion ($1.3 billion) in lost revenue rather than the £3 billion boost initially predicted. Anecdotal evidence suggests some financiers are already heading to the more tax-friendly climes of Dubai, Switzerland or Italy. Even so, the concerns may prove overstated. People who live in the UK but who can plausibly claim somewhere else is their permanent home, or domicile, may opt for a special tax treatment known as the “remittance basis,” which exempts them from paying anything on foreign income or capital gains unless these are brought into the country. Until now, non-domiciled individuals have also been exempt from inheritance tax on their overseas wealth, whereas UK-domiciled residents are liable to pay a rate of 40% (after allowances) on their worldwide assets. It’s a system that confers significant tax benefits, which become more lucrative the wealthier you are. It’s also an anachronism that should have been scrapped long ago. The origins of the non-dom regime stretch back to 1799, when Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger imposed the first income tax to finance the Napoleonic Wars. It was intended as a deferral for colonial plantation owners, who would be taxed on the income from sugar, tobacco and cotton shipments only when they received the funds. That evolved later into an exemption.

Tupperware (the brand) may fail. Tupperware (the word) will survive.
Tupperware filed for bankruptcy protection Tuesday amid slumping sales and rising debt, the news unlocked an airtight seal of nostalgia for many who fondly recalled Tupperware parties and childhood leftovers. Hearts ached for a brand that was seemingly conjoined with the American kitchen — and working women — for decades. But no matter what happens with the brand, the name Tupperware will never go away — not really. That's because many consumers will continue to refer to their resealable food containers as Tupperware, even if those containers are not Tupperware. (Most of them aren't.) And that may have been a part of Tupperware's problem. In marketing parlance, a phenomenon that is likely to have played at least a small role in Tupperware's demise is known as genericization, which is when a brand name becomes so well known that it supplants the product itself. Think of brands like Kleenex, which is synonymous with facial tissue, or X-acto, which has become a stand-in term for any type of modeling knife.

Hell is empty, devils are all there
Donald Trump was divine intervention, the second within two months seals the deal for supporters that he is god's own candidate. It's now the voters' 'sacred' duty to elect him in November. House of Representatives speaker Mike Johnson set the tone, saying it was 'providence', plain and simple. Cheating death twice is not an accident nor luck, they are saying. Trump lost no time in laying the blame directly at the door of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. He declared the gunman 'believed' and 'acted' on their 'highly inflammatory' rhetoric. Trump was referring to Biden's past remarks calling him a 'threat to democracy' and making him a target. He went on to call B&H the 'enemy from within' that will 'destroy our country'. But rhetoric doesn't come cheap. Trump was quick to send email 'alerts' to fundraise off the new hook. 'I will NEVER SURRENDER!' but remember to show your love with $25. And so it goes, this turbulent election season marred and scarred by violence, hate and worse.
