Valuation comfort in capital goods stocks? Stay invested & wait for dips: Renu Baid Pugalia
Renu Baid Pugalia, V-P-Research, IIFL Institutional Equities, says coming to valuations in capital goods stocks, on a relative scale Larsen & Toubro has disappointed on earnings and where the relative outlook in terms of margins was soft. From an earnings perspective, ABB saw almost 10% upgrade in earnings, Siemens saw 15% to 20% upgrade in earnings. Pugalia says that valuation is a pretty tough rope to walk for investors. The best strategy probably is to stay invested and hold on to these names, wait for opportunities for dips to add more. Pugalia does not see any deep value names, but probably some of the government owned companies, like Bharat Electronics on a relative scale given the kind of earnings growth momentum and visibility that they have, look much more attractive on valuations, trading at sub-30 times one year forward.

Waiting with cash in hand; will invest once election results are out on June 4: Aveek Mitra
Aveek Mitra, Aveksat Financial Advisory, says they have taken out some money and not invested fresh money and are nibbling into areas where they are investing at present based on the sectors that have gone down over the last two-three years. They have also built up most likely scenarios and most unlikely scenarios and based on that will see what best they can do with the cash after the 4th June result. A quick view on the construct of the market because the election is a very big event and if it does not pan out the way the market expects it to, then you will get even juicier bargains. But if it does, what happens then? How are you analysing the overall construct right now? Aveek Mitra: Last year, we generated excellent returns till March 2024. So, we are a bit cautious and we have not put in new money for the last one or two months except bits and pieces here and there and raised the cash a little bit. We are just waiting for that day to pass because that is an uncontrollable, unknowable event for an investor. So, it is like hedging a portfolio.

Margin improvement will start from H2; holding on to guidance of 15% for FY25: VIP Industries MD
Neetu Kashiramka, MD, VIP Industries, says that while this year the margin will be 15%, next year, it is going to be 18%. A 2-3% improvement in gross margin and a lot will happen to reduce overheads which are quite high now. All the work will start to show results starting H2 of this year. What are the demand trends looking like given that there were lesser wedding dates during the quarter? Has that really impacted your numbers and would it really impact your outlook for FY25? Neetu Kashiramka: Overall for FY25, our outlook is 1-2% better than industry growth and industry is expected to grow around 12%. But yes, the first quarter where the wedding dates are less, it might be slightly slower. But it should recover in Q3 because a lot of wedding dates are scheduled to happen in the Q3 of this year.
