US Yemen airstrike details exposed: Is this a national security threat, and can allies still trust America after the signal chat breach? Here’s what the UK has to say
US Yemen airstrike details exposed in a shocking security breach that has raised global concerns. On March 15, 2025, senior US officials mistakenly included journalist Jeffrey Goldberg in a classified Signal group chat discussing Yemen airstrikes. This error has put a spotlight on the vulnerabilities within US military communications. While the UK Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard reassures that Britain still has «high confidence» in US security measures, the breach has triggered debates about national security risks and the reliability of American intelligence-sharing with allies.

Trump team's leaked 'war plan' messages exposed as JD Vance and others blast 'pathetic, free-loading Europe'
However, Trump Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has denied the allegations saying no war plan was discussed. Hegseth discredited Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg who claimed that he was mistakenly added to the group where the war plans were leaked. Apart from the massive breach, which the White House has not denied, the chats — now viral — revealed the true feelings of Trump officials about Europe. Can Trump’s $100 billion ‘Golden Dome’ shield the US from nuclear and hypersonic missile threats?
Strategic Defense Initiative, was mocked as «Star Wars» and ultimately shelved. Now, under President Donald Trump’s directive, that idea has been reborn as the «Golden Dome.» Announced in a congressional address, Trump positioned the initiative as a critical step in bolstering national security. “As a first step, I’m asking Congress to fund a state-of-the-art ‘Golden Dome’ missile defence shield to protect our homeland. All made in the USA,” he declared. Unlike Israel’s Iron Dome, which focuses on short-range threats, the Golden Dome is designed to counter a wide range of missile attacks, including intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and hypersonic weapons. The challenge? The sheer size of the US means covering the entire country is a vastly more complex undertaking.

This increase acknowledges existing central social protection schemes that had not been considered earlier. India has made significant strides in enhancing its social protection coverage through a comprehensive data-pooling exercise led by the Ministry in collaboration with ILO. By utilising encrypted Aadhaar as a unique identifier across 34 major central schemes, such as MGNREGA, EPFO, ESIC, APY, and PM-POSHAN, over 200 crore records were processed to identify unique beneficiaries. According to the release, this exercise revealed that 65% of India's population (92 crore people) is covered by at least one social protection benefit (cash and in-kind both), with 48.8% receiving cash benefits.

For Musk's Starlink, India approval could unlock emerging markets
Starlink nears regulatory approval in India for satellite broadband services, analysts say a victory there could pave a road into more emerging markets and boost the company's ambitions to add a million subscribers every year. There are still legal hurdles to overcome, and competition from companies such as Eutelsat and China's SpaceSail, which is entering Brazil, Malaysia and Kazakhstan. SpaceX also argues that U.S. regulations put it at a disadvantage against foreign rivals. But a foothold in India would be a potential $25 billion boon for Starlink, helping it reshape that country's satellite broadband industry and making an attractive case to other developing markets, experts say.

Need for institutional reforms, improved workplace facilities for women in security forces: RS MP
challenges faced by women in security forces. Raising the issue during the Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, the NCP-SCP member recalled that after the tragic stampede at the New Delhi railway station on February 15, a photo went viral, showing a woman RPF constable patrolling the station with her one-year-old child strapped to her chest. «While glorified by the RPF as a symbol of Nari Shakti, I believe that the photo actually highlights the systemic challenges faced by women personnel in insecurity forces and the failure of the system to provide basic support to working mothers,» she said. Highlighting that women in security forces already face significant challenges, Khan said the nature of security work directly clashes with the consistent care that young children need. «What is needed is toilets, creches, baby care or breastfeeding rooms everywhere so that women can effectively manage both their professional and maternal responsibilities,» she said. The leader also pointed out that the government's goal of increasing female representation in security forces, which currently stands at a mere 4.4 per cent in central armed police forces, must be supported by sustainable policies.

'Not a big fan of Atlantic, going out...': Trump's bizarre response after major military security breach
Donald Trump has confirmed that a journalist from The Atlantic magazine was included in a private social media chat about upcoming attacks on the Houthi armed group in Yemen. What could be described as a major foot-in-mouth moment for the Trump administration, Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg claimed that he got to know about the plans of the US bombing the Houthis two hours before it actually happened because Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth by mistake texted him the war plan, according to multiple US media reports. On the Senate floor on Monday, the minority leader, Chuck Schumer, called it “one of the most stunning breaches of military intelligence I have read about in a very, very long time” and urged Republicans to seek a “full investigation into how this happened, the damage it created and how we can avoid it in the future”. “Every single one of the government officials on this text chain have now committed a crime – even if accidentally,” the Delaware senator Chris Coons wrote on Twitter/X. “We can’t trust anyone in this dangerous administration to keep Americans safe.” ALSO READ: 'Maliciously false information': Elon Musk threatens Pentagon leakers over 'top-secret plans' for China war story

Perpetrators of crimes against peacekeepers must be brought to justice: India at UNSC
India told the UN Security Council that peacekeepers have to contend with the presence of non-state actors, armed groups and terrorists, and in an era of complex conflicts and threats, perpetrators of crimes against peacekeepers must be brought to justice. These remarks were made by India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, during the UN Security Council Open Debate on Advancing Adaptability in UN Peace operations on Monday. «UN Peacekeepers today have to contend with the presence of non-state actors, armed groups, terrorists, as well as transnational criminal networks. Technological advancements have created new challenges in the form of mis-/dis-/mal-information and hate speech, new-age weapons, including drones, IEDs etc. These are but a few new realities that peacekeepers are up against,» he said. «Safety and security of peacekeepers must remain paramount. In an era marked by complex conflicts and asymmetric threats, we must ensure that those who risk their lives for peace are adequately protected and that perpetrators of crimes against peacekeepers are brought to justice,» he said. He stressed that troop/police-contributing countries need to focus on enhancing the capabilities of their personnel to address emerging challenges to operate effectively in hostile environments. «India is willing to curate and offer courses that address specific demands of modern peacekeeping at our Centre for UN Peacekeeping (CUNPK), which has been training national and international peacekeepers for over two decades,» he added.

Young India sees consumption as just another activity, not an identity marker
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Discussion around youth consumption in India has been largely focused around observed purchasing behaviour. Despite its enormous value in guiding marketers, two key questions have been left to the realm of assumption rather than data-led insights: one, the larger and more foundational question of where consumption is located in the overall canvas of life aspirations, dreams and emotions of ‘mass’ or mainstream young India.
