Brands paid for ads on Forbes.com. Some ran on a copycat site instead
Forbes for years ran an alternate version of its website where it packed ads that were intended to run on Forbes.com, another sign that brands don’t always get what they pay for in the opaque digital-advertising market. The alternate site, which Forbes shut down Tuesday following inquiries from The Wall Street Journal, featured stories from Forbes.com that were stretched into formats that can fit many more ads, like slideshows and articles written in a list format, known as “listicles." One 700-word article was turned into a 34-slide slideshow, exposing the person who read it on a computer to about 150 ads instead of around seven for someone who read the original piece.

Here's how Bengaluru's water crisis has affected real estate sales as per Knight Frank report
office demand in the IT city remained flat at 3.5 million square feet, a report by Knight Frank has said. Sales Decline in Affordable Segment “The less than ₹50 lakh housing segment saw sales decline by almost 65% to 70% in the first quarter of 2024 which has brought down the overall numbers. The sales in the ₹50 lakh- ₹1 crore residential segment has dipped by 7 percent. This is primarily on account of the affordability challenges faced by buyers of this segment. This may be a temporary blip,” said Vivek Rathi, head of research at Knight Frank India, at the launch of the Knight Frank titled India Real Estate: Office and Residential Report (January — March 2024).

Rushing to invest in PPF before April 5? Here's why it may not be a good idea
Public Provident Fund (PPF) accounts before April 5, hoping to capitalise on the additional interest accrued from early investment. Indeed, depositing a lumpsum between April 1 and April 5 annually in a PPF account, assuming a consistent interest rate of 7.1%, yields a substantial maturity amount compared to monthly deposits of ₹12,500 over the subsequent 15 years. With monthly investments of ₹12,500 in a PPF account for 15 years at a constant interest rate of 7.1%, the total amount earned is ₹40,20,301.

In FY24, New India Assurance achieved about $5 billion global premium: CMD
Neerja Kapur, Chairman-cum Managing Director, New India Assurance, reported a global written premium target of Rs 42,000 crore, with unaudited figures showing a total of Rs 41,860 crore for the financial year. The final figures depend on the trial balance and balance sheets. This translates to a $5 billion global premium. When asked about the premium breakdown, Kapur highlighted health as the top-performing segment, noting growth in health and motor segments. You recently closed your books of FY24. How much premium have you done in the fiscal? Has the company achieved the target or has it missed it? How far are you from the target? Neerja Kapur: We had targeted a premium of about Rs 42,000 crore, global written premium and we have completed the financial year and these are unaudited figures as of now. When we compile the premium completion of our domestic market with the premium completion of our foreign offices, the total premium of Rs 41,860 crore and these, of course, will be subject to the finalisation of the trial balance and the balance sheets. It translates into about a $5 billion global premium.

Uttarakhand to get commercial plant for recycling lithium-ion batteries (LIB) and e-waste soon
recycling lithium-ion batteries (LIB) and e-waste using indigenous technology in Uttarakhand. This move aims to enhance circularity and lessen the country's reliance on imported critical mineral resources. Presently, a large portion of LIBs, about 95%, end up in landfills without recycling, while only 5% undergo the process. The lithium-ion battery recycling market is expected to grow significantly, reaching close to $15 billion by 2030, showing a compound annual growth rate of 21.6%. In 2021, the market size was $3.8 billion. Improper disposal of LIBs through landfilling and incineration poses environmental and health risks. Effective recycling will not only provide secondary raw materials for cell manufacturing domestically but also help in averting health hazards. Moreover, e-waste poses a substantial challenge, with approximately 78% of it not being collected in India. This results in valuable secondary raw materials like gold, silver, copper, and rare earth elements being left in dump yards or landfills. India is currently the third-largest generator of e-waste globally.

It seems we can finally close the long chapter of shortfall-compensation for states after the mid-2017 switchover to GST from multiple central and state taxes that got subsumed by this uniform levy across the country.
