Telangana CM KCR attacks Centre, BJP for not deciding state's share in Krishna river water
NDA government at the Centre for not deciding the share of Telangana in Krishna river waters, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday said people should question the BJP leaders on the matter. He was speaking at a public meeting at Kollapur in Nagarkurnool district after inaugurating the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift scheme. He took exception to some BJP activists allegedly running behind his bus when he was coming for the inauguration of the project and the public meeting. He hit out at the NDA government for not taking steps to determine Telangana's share in Krishna river waters since it came to power in 2014. In a blistering attack, he claimed that BJP leaders from the undivided Mahabubnagar district should go to Delhi and take up with PM Narendra Modi for referring the matter of Telangana's share to the Krishna tribunal if they «have any sense of shame». «We asked for water.

Cong resolves to make INDIA bloc 'ideological and electoral success' to free country from 'divisive politics'
Congress on Saturday resolved to make the INDIA bloc an «ideological and electoral success» to free the country from "divisive politics" and ensure that people get a government that is sensitive and accountable. The party made the assertion in a resolution adopted by the Congress Working Committee, which held its first meeting after being reconstituted. The CWC also «wholeheartedly» welcomed the continuing consolidation of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) claiming it has already rattled Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. In its resolution, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), which is the party's highest decision-making party, expressed grave concern at the «increasing unemployment and continuous rise in prices, especially of essential commodities». «The prime minister's so-called Rozgar melas are a hoax to cover up the abject failure to create, as promised, two crore jobs a year,» the resolution said. The CWC claimed that the failure to conduct the decennial Census, due in 2021, is a «national and an international shame». «One of the consequences is that an estimated 14 crore of the poorest Indians are denied their entitlement to food rations since ration cards are issued on the basis of the 2011 Census.

Kejriwal promises implementation of PESA for tribals if AAP voted to power in Chhattisgarh
Kejriwal on Saturday said his party would implement the Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act in tribal-dominated areas of Chhattisgarh if voted to power in the upcoming assembly elections. Addressing a rally in the Bastar district headquarter Jagdalpur, around 300 km from here, Kejriwal slammed the BJP, saying celebrations were underway at the saffron party's headquarters in Delhi when the sad news of the martyrdom of Army officers in Anantnag trickled in. He also hit out at the BJP over the "India vs Bharat" debate and the 'one nation and one election' agenda. «We guarantee that if AAP is elected to power in Chhattisgarh, PESA will be implemented within a month of the formation of the government in the interest of tribals and to protect their 'jal, jungle, and zameen' (land).

Sanatana Dharma is set of 'eternal duties'…free speech cannot be hate speech: Madras High Court judge
DMK minister Udhayanidhi Stalin's comments, the Madras High Court has said that Sanatana Dharma is a set of 'eternal duties' which can be gathered from multiple sources relating to Hinduism or those practising the Hindu way of life and includes “the duty to the nation, duty to the King, King's duty to his people, duty to one's parents and Gurus, care for the poor, and whole lot of other duties”. Justice N. Seshasayee said in his order on September 15 that the court is conscious of “the very vociferous, and at time noisy debates on pro and anti Sanatana Dharma” and the court could not help pondering over with genuine concern for what is going around. The court also said that when free speech is exercised in matters pertaining to religion, it is necessary for one to ensure that no one is injured and “free speech cannot be hate speech”. “Somewhere, an idea appears to have gained ground that Sanadhana Dharma is all about, and only about, promoting casteism and untouchability.

Explore possibilities of extending benefits of COVID-19 schemes to all orphan children: SC to Centre
Supreme Court has said, asking the Centre if there are ways the benefits of schemes, including PM Cares fund, which were meant for children orphaned during the COVID-19 pandemic, can be extended to all orphans. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra on Friday asked Additional Solicitor General Vikramjeet Banerjee, appearing for Centre, to seek instructions in the matter. «You have rightly brought out a policy for orphans, whose parents died due to the COVID pandemic. An orphan is an orphan, irrespective of whether the parents died in an accident or illness. By bringing these schemes, you are attending to the condition and not the parentage. »You seek an instruction on whether benefits of schemes including PM Cares fund meant for children orphaned during the COVID-19 pandemic can be extended to other orphaned children," the bench told Banerjee. The ASG said he was recently given a brief to appear in the matter and would respond to the court's query in four weeks' time.

Facebook failed to control Covid misinformation due to its design, reveals study
misinformation policies of Facebook, the world's largest social media platform, were not effective in combating misinformation and its overall design is more to blame for this rather than just algorithms, a new study has revealed. The study, led by researchers at the George Washington University in the US and published in the journal Science Advances, found that Facebook's efforts were undermined by the core design features of the platform itself.

Iconic Colombian artist Fernando Botero passes away at 91
Botero, whose sculptures and paintings of playful, rotund subjects in sometimes harrowing situations made him one of the world's richest artists, has died at 91. Heralded as South America's answer to Picasso, Botero also tackled violence and political topics, including Colombia's internal conflicts, as well as portraying daily life. His works have featured in exhibitions across the world. His canvases and sculptures sell for more than $2 million each, according to Sotheby's. The artist's bodacious subjects were portrayed in everyday situations — a corpulent naked woman lounging on a bed or a stout man riding a humorously out-sized horse — but served the artist's more serious goal of transporting the reader to what he called a «superlative dimension», where commonplace situations took on exaggerated proportions. Despite the comic plumpness of many of his creations, the artist never shied away from serious subject matter — his series of paintings about the Abu Ghraib prison scandal generated discussion across the art world. «Fernando Botero has died, the painter of our traditions and defects, the painter of our virtues.
