Fifth Test: Kuldeep Yadav bundles out England for 218 on day one
Kuldeep Yadav. He has a spring in his steps, he bounds into the crease and puts his entire body into delivering the ball. From there on, it’s like he has the ball on a string. It goes above the batman’s eyeline and then dips, dropping like a bird of prey that has its catch in sight. On the first day of the fifth and final India-England Test at Dharamsala, Kuldeep hit his straps and he was irresistible. Once again, England had got off to a bright start, getting to 137 for 2 at a fast clip. Zak Crawley, who was careful against the quick bowlers in an initial probing spell, settled in against the spinners, using his long reach to good effect. Kuldeep then produced a bit of magic, drawing the batsman forward and getting the ball to break sharply to defeat the bat and crash into the stumps. Crawley had made 79 of England’s runs at the time.

Watching gully cricket
gully cricket, a quintessential local version of this global sport, is a joyous experience that embodies the raw spirit of cricket in its purest form. It brings people together, and even those who are not terribly interested get sucked into the charged atmosphere. What makes gully cricket special is its informality and spontaneity. There are no fancy jerseys with names and numbers of players on them, meticulously maintained grounds, or even, for that matter, decent terrain or floodlights. Players and spectators make do with whatever is available in the area. Every match is a test of improvisation and resourcefulness, with players using whatever objects are at hand — be it bricks for wickets or a discarded tyre for a boundary marker.

Separate number series for marketing, service calls soon to curb spam
telecom regulator shall soon issue a mandate to demarcate separate numbering series for transactional versus marketing calls made by businesses for commercial purposes. Currently, only 140 number series are allocated for all kinds of commercial purposes. These could in future be classified into (140) marketing and (160 or 161) for service calls to easily identify the purpose of the caller. The move is complementary to Trai's (telecom regulatory authority of India) recent recommendations for network operators as well as mobile device makers to enable display of caller's name, both for personal phone numbers as well as enterprise callers. «The DoT has approved our recommendation to allocate separate series which have been tested for both purposes...Trai shall soon issue a direction in this regard,» a senior Trai official told ET.

HKMA to pilot CBDC sandbox for tokenised deposits
The project, dubbed 'Ensemble', will initially focus on tokenised deposits issued by commercial banks and made available to the general public. It follows the completion of pilots with 16 firms last year that took a deep dive into potential use cases for an eHK in six categories, including full-fledged payments, programmable payments, offline payments, tokenised deposits, settlement of Web3 transactions and settlement of tokenised assets. At the core of Project Ensemble is a wCBDC Sandbox that the HKMA will launch this year to further research and test tokenisation use cases that include, among others, settlement of tokenised real world assets such as green bonds, carbon credits, aircraft, electric vehicle charging stations, electronic bills of lading and treasury management.

Tech View: Nifty call writers increase positions at 22,500 strike. What should traders do next week
Nifty on Thursday ended 19.5 points higher to form a Doji candle on the daily chart as it stayed below the psychological 22,500 mark, with call writers at the 22,500 strikes significantly increasing their positions. In the case of a dip towards, 22,390 – 22,340 it should be used as a buying opportunity as key hourly moving averages are placed in this range and can attract buying interest. On the upside, 22,570 – 22,600 shall act as an immediate hurdle zone from a short-term perspective, said Jatin Gedia of Sharekhan.

Kuldeep Yadav's 5-wicket haul against England breaks 100-year-old record; makes him world's fastest spinner to.…
India vs England 5th Test: Ahead of Day 1 of the 5th Test in Dharamshala, spinner Kuldeep Yadav was not sure if he would get a chance to play as Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid were looking to include a third seamer in the playing XI to capitalize on the cold conditions of Dharamshala. But, something stopped them from experimenting and it proved to be a great decision as Kuldeep Yadav dismissed all doubts with his 5-wicket haul on Day 1. With a fifer on Dharamshala cricket ground, Kuldeep Yadav became the world's quickest spinner to clinch 50 wickets.

Kuldeep, Ashwin combine to bowl out England for 218
Kuldeep Yadav, who grabbed five wickets, and 100th Test man Ravichandran Ashwin helped India bundle out England for a woeful 218 in their first innings on Day 1 of the fifth Test here on Thursday. Kuldeep (5/72) and Ashwin (4/51) ran through the England batting line-up as the visitors lost eight wickets for 118 runs across post-lunch and post-tea sessions. Opener Zak Crawley (79, 108 balls) offered lone resistance for England. There were two partnerships in the middle-order — 37 between Crawley and Joe Root for third wicket and 38 between Root and 100-Test-man Jonny Bairstow for the fourth wicket — but they were not sufficient for the visitors.

Covid-19 cases rising again in India: Experts cite this reason and precautions
Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, marking the highest daily number since May last year. This increase in infections is not limited to Delhi alone, as other northern states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar are also experiencing a rise in cases. Over the past 15 days, Delhi has reported a total of 459 cases, compared to 191 in the previous two weeks and 73 in the 15-day period prior to that. Similarly, Rajasthan has seen an increase in cases, with 226 reported in the last 15 days compared to 96 and 27 in the previous two fortnights, according to data from the Union health ministry. Although the reported numbers may not be significant, experts believe that the actual count is likely much higher due to low testing rates. The last time Delhi reported more than 50 daily Covid cases was in May 2023, during the declining phase of a nationwide surge that began in March and peaked in mid-April, with over 12,500 cases reported on April 19.
