Mask up, say doctors as Covid-19 cases show a rise
Covid-19 caseload increased to 2,997 on Friday, amid a surge in cases over the past few days following the detection of sub-variant JN.1. «Covid is a cyclical disease, now returning to India after a seven-month gap,» said Rajeev Jayadevan, co-chairman of the Indian Medical Association's national Covid Task Force. He said JN.1 appears to be driving it elsewhere in the world and is rapidly spreading within the country as well. «In areas where testing is done, cases are being found. Not only are cases being found, but the proportion of Covid among people with such symptoms is also increasing, indicating a rapid spread within the community,» he said. Jayadevan said while the infection is spreading among people who are relatively healthy people, the focus should be on preventing the virus from reaching more vulnerable segments, including the elderly and those with significant health conditions.

Mileen Vasudeo’ 2 stock recommendations in this market
Mileen Vasudeo, Senior Technical Research Analyst, Arihant Capital Markets, says “one recommendation is from the pharma pack itself. It is a buy on AstraZeneca, which is currently trading at Rs 1,570; strong consolidation breakout with huge volumes. Now if you keep a stop loss of Rs 1,450, on the higher side, we expect the stock to test Rs 1,810-1.920 levels. The second stock is Craftman Limited, currently trading at somewhere around Rs 5,480 or 5,490. Keep a stop loss of Rs 5,350 on the higher side as it can test the levels of Rs 5,790 and 6,000 in a couple of weeks’ time.” How does the trade look like on the Nifty and Bank Nifty after flushing out a lot of stop losses day before, people coming back yesterday? Mileen Vasudeo: The day before yesterday, we had a good fall in Nifty which flushed out many people over here. But then again if you see there was a strong support at lower levels and again we have bounced back. So our view is that unless and until the index that is Nifty does not breach 20,850 which was last week’s low, there is a fair chance Nifty is likely to head higher to test the levels of 21,500 to 21,800 levels.

COVID-19 leaves lessons to learn, Trudeau says amid rapid test controversy
COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says amid controversy surrounding government rapid test purchases.Trudeau faced questions stemming from a Global News investigation that found a rapid test importer landed an estimated $2 billion in federal contracts in 2021 and 2022, despite giving regulators incomplete data about its product’s accuracy.“During the pandemic, we were doing everything we could in unprecedented ways to get as many different ways of keeping Canadians safe as we possibly could, whether it was on rapid tests, whether it was on procurement of PPE, whether it was on contracts for vaccines, and getting the vaccines needed to make sure that Canadians got through this pandemic,” Trudeau told reporters in Toronto on Thursday.“There’s no doubt (there’s) lots of lessons to learn about things that worked really well, about things that we probably won’t be doing again in the next pandemic when it comes. But every step of the way through the pandemic, it was all hands-on deck with every different way we could do to try and make sure we were saving as many lives as possible, and getting our economy back on its feet as quickly as possible.”A year-long investigation into federal procurement revealed that BTNX, a small rapid test supplier based outside Toronto, deleted dozens of specimens, or samples, from a study it submitted to Health Canada.
