Tariff offensive: US & partners trade fire
The actions, which could upend nearly $2.2 trillion in two-way annual trade, went live hours after Trump declared that all three countries had failed to do enough to stem the flow of the deadly fentanyl opioid and its precursor chemicals into the US. China announced additional tariffs of 10-15% on certain US imports from March 10. It also slapped export and investment curbs on 25 US firms on grounds of national security. «Trying to exert extreme pressure on China is a miscalculation and a mistake,» a foreign ministry spokesperson said in Beijing, adding that China had never succumbed to bullying or coercion.

Sentiment on D-Street most bearish since Covid
Advance Decline Ratio, widely used to gauge investor sentiment and market strength, in February was at 0.72 — the lowest reading in five years. A declining ADR means more stocks are falling as against the gainers and points to a weakening market. In January, the reading was 0.9, while in the period before October — when the market started declining, it was in the range of 1 to 1.28 on average.

Non-tariff measures limit market access for Indian exports, says DGFT
Non-tariff measures being announced by developed economies such as European Union's carbon tax and deforestation regulation limit market access for Indian goods in those markets, a senior government official said on Tuesday. Addressing a post-Budget webinar, Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Santosh Kumar Sarangi said that the other challenges before Indian exports include insufficient integration with global value chains, high import duties, technology disadvantage, and high cost of logistics (about 8-9 per cent of GDP against 5-6 per cent in developed nations). He added that the export window is also narrowing because of aggressive industrial policies of advanced nations like USA's Inflation Reduction Act and Chips Act, and UK's advanced manufacturing plan. Most non-tariff measures (NTMs) are domestic rules created by countries with an aim to protect human, animal or plant health and the environment. NTM may be technical measures like regulations, standards, testing, certification, pre-shipment inspection or non-technical measures like quotas, import licensing, subsidies, and government procurement restrictions.

India's exports face pressure from US, EU trade policies, govt official says

Features
Now Paytm UPI users can trade on the stock market without paying money to the stock broker in advance; Here’s how
Paytm UPI will now support UPI trading blocks i.e. Single Block Multiple Debits, resulting in simplification of stock market trading and investing. Using this feature Paytm UPI users can now set up automatic payment deductions directly from their bank account for stock market transactions, without having to transfer large sums to their trading accounts on supported stock broking apps. This will enable Paytm UPI users to continue to earn interest on their savings account bank balance, until they make their actual stock market transactions, since funds remain in their bank account. To say about this feature in a nutshell, the money from your bank account will only be deducted once you place the buy transaction on the stock market for buying any security. Like if you have Rs 10,000 in your bank account and want to buy shares of a company priced at Rs 1200 per share, then as soon as you hit the buy button for this share, the exact amount of money will be debited from your bank account. Earlier, you had to transfer the money from your bank account to the trading account and then place the buy order. After this the remaining balance would be transferred back to your bank account if unused. This delay is now eliminated through this UPI trading block feature. Read below to know highlights of this UPI trading block feature and a guide on how to use it:
