When bhai goes missing in action, will Eid box office be the same?
NEW DELHI : The Eid weekend is here, but there’s no Salman Khan. The absence of this tried-and-tested combo, plus a general fall in audience flow into theatres after covid, have subdued the chances of a blockbuster Eid weekend for both moviegoers and the industry this year.

Banks strike back against private credit
When it comes to financing deals, don’t count out the big Wall Street banks quite yet. A big narrative in recent years has been that America’s biggest deposit-taking investment banks are losing ground to their nonbank rivals, the likes of Blackstone and Apollo Global. One worry for banks was that private credit—meaning, in this context, lending directly to businesses by alternative-asset fund managers, insurers and others—was going to eat into investment banks’ business originating loans and distributing them to investors.

Mobile retailers'' body threatens to stop sales of OnePlus from May 1 over ''unaddressed concerns''
South India Organised Retailers Association (ORA) on Wednesday threatened to halt the sales of OnePlus products in their establishments from May 1, allegedly due to unresolved concerns with the company. In a letter addressed to Ranjeet Singh, Sales Director of Oneplus Technology India, ORA said that throughout the past year, the retailers' body has encountered significant obstacles associated with selling OnePlus products, which remain unresolved. «Despite our persistent efforts to address these concerns with your company, little progress or resolution has been achieved. Promises made have not been fulfilled, leaving us with no recourse but to take this drastic measure. ORA painfully wishes to inform our collective decision to halt the retail of OnePlus products in our establishments from 1st May, 2024,» the body said.

WTO sees signs of trade revival, but risks from fragmentation
World trade is set to rebound this year and next as cooling inflation eases pressure on household budgets, according to the World Trade Organization, but the recovery may be weakened by growing distrust and fresh barriers between some large economies. Flows of goods and services across national borders have swung wildly over recent years in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lifting of related restrictions. While trade in goods soared in 2021 and 2022 as households in lockdown were deprived of access to many services, last year saw a decline of 1.2%.

Irdai’s policy rollback: How it affects insurance surrenders
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) has junked its proposal to hike the guaranteed surrender value (GSV) for policyholders. Had this proposal, unveiled in December, been implemented, it would have increased the GSV of non-participating life insurance plans by 74-85%, as per some estimates. Non-participating plans are those in which maturity benefits are guaranteed and are not linked to the profits that insurers earn.
