‘The ship is sinking!’ Missile strikes, panic and a race to save the Rubymar
Chief mate Mahmoud Gwealy awoke to a loud bang that sent the laptop on his chest crashing into his nose. The 29-year-old Egyptian sailor had dozed off for the evening while watching Lebanese soap operas in the upstairs quarters of the Rubymar. The British-owned bulk carrier had been rocking in such high swells that he wondered if it had been slammed by a huge wave.

Houthis targeting merchant ships in Red Sea; situation not very good: Admiral Hari Kumar
Houthis are targeting merchant ships belonging to either Israel, the US or the UK in the Red Sea with drones and missiles and the situation is «not very good». Describing the activities in the Red Sea as «an offshoot of the Israel-Hamas conflict», the Admiral said the Indian Navy is providing necessary protection primarily to India-flagged ships and also to other vessels that seek assistance. «Indian Navy is supporting all merchant ships in their to and fro journey between the Red Sea and Indian Ocean Region. Primarily, we are looking at the India-flagged vessels but also assisting any ship that seeks our help,» the Naval chief told reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new Administrative building of Naval War College near Panaji. Admiral Kumar further said the Indian Navy has given a clear message (to attackers) that we will not tolerate such acts, [which] make the Indian Ocean unsafe".

'Dune' sequel opens big in US, crosses $81 mn on day 1
Warner Bros.' new sci-fi film «Dune: Part Two» shot to the top of the North American box office this weekend, taking in an estimated $81.5 million, industry watcher Exhibitor Relations reported Sunday. «This is an outstanding opening» for a sci-fi sequel, said analyst David A. Gross, adding that a sprawling international cast including Anya Taylor-Joy, Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Lea Seydoux and Javier Bardem had provided an added boost. Denis Villeneuve's epic sequel to the original «Dune» — based on Frank Herbert's 1965 novel about war and survival on the deeply inhospitable desert planet of Arrakis — saw the young year's largest opening, roughly doubling the original film's opening. «Dune: Part Two» has taken in an additional $97 million abroad.

Courts Pummeled Trump. That Made Some Republicans Love Him More.
GOLDSBORO, N.C.—Donald Trump has been impeached, indicted and ordered to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in penalties for committing fraud and defamation. For many Republican voters in this Raleigh exurb, that doesn’t disqualify him from returning to the White House. Instead, it makes them more likely to back Trump in this week’s Super Tuesday primary because they view the GOP presidential front-runner as unfairly targeted by his political enemies.

U.S. Supreme Court could decide on barring Trump from 2024 ballot Monday
A Supreme Court decision could come as soon as Monday in the case about whether former President Donald Trump can be kicked off the ballot over his efforts to undo his defeat in the 2020 election.Trump is challenging a groundbreaking decision by the Colorado Supreme Court that said he is disqualified from being president again and ineligible for the state’s primary, which is Tuesday. The resolution of the case on Monday, a day before Super Tuesday contests in 16 states, would remove uncertainty about whether votes for Trump, the leading Republican candidate for president, will ultimately count. Both sides had requested fast work by the court, which heard arguments less than a month ago, on Feb.

Russia’s Backdoor for Battlefield Goods From China: Central Asia
SINGAPORE—Two years after the invasion of Ukraine, drones and U.S.-made computer chips are increasingly flowing to Russia from China through Central Asian trade routes, showing the difficulty of strangling supplies to Moscow’s war effort. Trade routes snaking through former Soviet republics Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are among the many paths into Russia for so-called dual-use goods—singled out by the U.S. and its allies because they can be used on the battlefield.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy calls for western air defence as Russian attacks kill 11
Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday called on the West to rapidly deliver more air-defence systems as a wave of Russian missile, drone and artillery strikes killed at least 11 people. Eight were confirmed dead, including a child and a baby, after an overnight drone strike on the southern port city of Odesa, a regional official said. Separate shelling attacks on the frontline regions of Kharkiv in the northeast and Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in the south killed another three people, Ukrainian officials said. «Russia continues to hit civilians,» Zelenskyy said in a post on social media.
