Woman vanished from Bahamas yoga retreat in ‘deeply unsettling’ case, says mom
found Casey’s cellphone in the water but they had been unable to access its contents, reports CNN. Shortly after she disappeared, a police tracking dog picked up a scent from a yoga tent and tracked it to the water, but the scent ended there, police said.Casey’s mother, Colette Seymore, went to the Bahamas to help in the search efforts and meet with officials and the retreat leaders late last month, but she said the family is “not satisfied with how this investigation has been handled thus far.”In a news release last week, after returning to the U.S., Seymore said she felt uneasy with how the retreat leaders are handling her daughter’s disappearance, claiming that the retreat had a “cultish” feel and she felt students were being “coerced to obey” retreat leaders, “even if that meant holding back information about my child.”“It became apparent to us when we met with the Sivananda Ashram leaders that they were struggling to keep a linear and cohesive narrative regarding Taylor’s disappearance,” said Casey’s close friend, Emily Williams, who travelled with Seymore to the Bahamas. The press release claims the women were told by police not to talk to any of the resort’s guests, and that they had to “beg” to talk to students of the yoga retreat but it felt “like they were told what to say and what not to say.”Jonathan Goldbloom, a spokesperson for the retreat, told NBC News last week it has been fully cooperative with police and family and encouraged guests to speak.“All of us are distraught over Taylor’s disappearance, and our hearts go out to her family and friends,” he said in an email to NBC.

Kuwait introduces new visa rules letting govt workers transfer to private sector jobs
visa rules allowing expatriates working in domestic sectors to transfer their visas to the private sector. This change, announced by the Office of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and Interior Sheikh Fahad Al Yousuf Al Sabah, aims to streamline labor mobility while adhering to the nation's legal framework. Starting July 14, domestic workers can transfer their visas under specific conditions, as reported by Gulf News. These conditions include obtaining approval from their current employer, having a minimum residency period of one year with the current employer, and paying a transfer fee of 50 dinars (approximately Dh600). Additionally, there is a charge of 10 dinars for each year of service with the current employer. The announcement follows a three-month amnesty period, which ended in June, that allowed expatriates residing unlawfully in Kuwait to regularize their status. Options included paying penalties, obtaining new residency, or leaving the country without fines.

In Cuba, a haven for the world's tiniest bird
PALPITE: The wings of the world's tiniest birds are a near-invisible blur as they whizz around tourists visiting a private Cuban garden that has become a haven for the declining species. The bee hummingbird, which measures just five to six centimeters (two inches) long, is only found in Cuba. Its losses have been huge, with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) saying it has disappeared from many areas due to deforestation. But in Palpite, in the southwest of the country, Bernabe Hernandez, 75, has turned his garden into a paradise for the bitty bird.

The Dalai Lama may soon reveal his succession plan, and it’ll have geopolitical ramifications
Dalai Lama's next move. Their top-of-the-mind question is whether the Tibetan leader will be announcing his successor. Supporters of the 14th Dalai Lama, which include US lawmakers, are worried that China will try to beat him in the race and declare its own 15th Dalai Lama. 'They have even attempted to insert themselves into the succession of the Dalai Lama. We will not let that happen,' said Republican chair of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee Michael McCaul. For Tibetans living in China and spread across several countries, the Dalai Lama is a 'living Buddha' and represents the symbol of Tibetan identity and Chinese repression. He escaped from Tibet to India in 1959 after Chinese troops took over Tibet and indulged in a bloodbath.

Hydrogen sector asks EU to help local firms compete with China
BRUSSELS: European manufacturers of hydrogen equipment have urged the European Union to step in to help the industry compete with cheaper Chinese producers, in a letter seen by Reuters on Monday. The companies, among them Thyssenkrupp Nucera, Siemens Energy, and Nel Hydrogen, want Brussels to do more to ensure Europe-made equipment powers the EU's plan by 2030 to produce 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen using electrolysers, machines that use electricity to split water to produce the green fuel. China is rapidly expanding its production of hydrogen equipment and is now home to 40% of the world's electrolyser manufacturing capacity, up from 10% last year, the letter said, adding that state subsidies were giving Chinese firms an edge.
