Swiggy recorded Rs 7,474 crore in revenue in the first half of fiscal 2024, 360 One said in the presentation made to its clients. Independent directors are jostling at the boarding gate
Of course, certain unlisted companies or those listed on exchanges other than NSE as well as those gearing up for listing also need to appoint independent directors, but that number will be relatively small. The increased visibility, responsibility and remuneration of independent directors has led to rising awareness of this strategic role in Corporate India. Besides, several factors have spurred more aspirants to sign up to be independent directors. The big 'board refresh' this year-involving stepping down of independent directors who were completing 10 years (two terms) on a company's board-was expected to make way for new faces on the boards. Secondly, the need for women independent directors on boards increased.

employment opportunities could be the key to winning elections as the recent job crisis, that has seen nearly a million jobs vanishing into thin air over the course of the year, has driven Americans into a recession scare, something that could prove to be detrimental for Kamala Harris' prospects in the US Presidential Elections 2024.

Both consumption or capex stocks back with a bang; look for proxy plays to defence, railways: Devang Mehta
Devang Mehta, Director-Equity Advisory, Spark Private Wealth, says a combination of sectors related to capex and consumption and certain sectors in credit growth will be a good investment portfolio if somebody has a one-and-a-half, two-year horizon. Mehta further says look into proxy plays like bearing companies for railways and defence stocks. What are you doing in the markets right now? Any fresh stocks that you have managed to recommend to your clients? Any fresh ideas? Devang Mehta: I will talk more about themes and sectors rather than ideas. I will give certain examples on the way. We feel that both sides of the market – be it consumption or capex – have come back with a bang. Post the elections, post the budget, and post this volatility that we saw a couple of weeks back during the yen carry trade, the market has gone from strength to strength. So, whichever sectors were not performing, be it FMCG companies, auto companies and even discretionary consumption companies like Titan, and Trent, have come up with a good set of numbers.

What should investors do with auto stocks? Sandip Sabharwal answers
«The management strategy of expanding across various formats, expanding its food delivery, TajSATS. So, I think strategically they are doing very well and now the big focus only on managed hotels is working well for them. Stock is not cheap at these valuations at all. Like, we obviously hold for from very low levels and we continue to hold,» says Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com. Two stocks you track closely, both InterGlobe as well as Indian Hotels giving fresh solid moves today. Do you think the prospects continue to look brighter and what if one were to look to add positions at these levels? Would you recommend that at all? Sandip Sabharwal: InterGlobe is in a very unique position where the competitive intensity instead of increasing on improved profitability in the sector actually reduced.

Won't play big brother, have open mind on MVA leadership: Cong's Chennithala
Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance in poll-bound Maharashtra, and the party, which has won the largest share of Lok Sabha seats among the allies, will also «keep an open mind» while discussing key issues such as the question of MVA leadership as well its seat-sharing formula, Ramesh Chennithala, AICC in-charge of Maharashtra, said on Thursday. «Let me make it clear that the Congress party in Maharashtra is fully committed to the coalition dharma. The Congress party will have no big brother attitude within the MVA coalition and we will work amicably with our allies on MVA's election preparations, including on seat-sharing matters,» Chennithala told ET. His comments came in the backdrop of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray stating that MVA should have a chief ministerial face in the October assembly polls in Maharashtra even as he disproved the practice of reserving the slot for the largest coalition partner.

Chinese video game ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ is an instant global hit, what is it all about?
Wukong exemplifies the growing maturity of China's gaming sector and the integrated resource capabilities of Chinese producers. With this release, Chinese game developers enter a market that has long been dominated by triple-A Western titles. Due to this innovation, Chinese is now the default language in triple-A games instead of English. The Guardian, a British newspaper, praised the game for its stunning visuals, cinematic beauty, and refreshing sense of speed, as well as its fluid-feeling combat. It described Wukong as the most thrilling and contentious video game of the summer. The majority of the hype, which has been accentuated by Chinese state media, is for the action, design, and playability of the game. Also Read: Did Obama really use the Trump D*** Joke? Fed policymakers flag rate cuts as job market cools
Federal Reserve policymakers on Thursday lined up in support of U.S. interest-rate cuts starting next month now that inflation is well down from its highs and the U.S. labor market is cooling, though one signaled he is in no rush to ease policy. «For me, barring any surprise in the data we'll get between now and then, I think we need to start this process» of lowering rates, Philadephia Fed Bank President Patrick Harker said in an interview with Reuters. «I think a slow, methodical approach down is the right way to go.» Boston Fed President Susan Collins struck a similar tone, signaling her likely support for a rate cut at the U.S. central bank's policy meeting next month.

'Excessively restrictive' MPC may be sacrificing India's growth potential, says dissenting member Jayant Varma
Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) member Prof. Jayant Varma raised concerns over the impact of the current monetary policy stance on the country's economic growth, the minutes of August meeting showed on Thursday. He argued that the policy, which he believes is excessively restrictive, is sacrificing growth potential at a time when India's economy could be accelerating. Varma, an external member of the MPC, had voted for a cut in repo rate during the meeting which took place on August 6-8. The committee, however, decided to keep the policy rate unchanged at 6.50 per cent with a 4:2 majority.
