BJP lost opportunity during Kargil War, let them take back areas of J&K under Pakistan and China now: Omar Abdullah
Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that the BJP should take back parts of Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan as well as China. Abdullah, while speaking in the J&K assembly said that BJP keeps criticizing Congress for losing Haji Peer to Pakistan and other things, instead BJP should tell us what they brought back in the Kargil war in 1999 when they had the opportunity and excuse that Pakistan had attacked first. “One part of Kashmir is with Pakistan. Today Foreign Minister has said that they will take that back. Who has stopped you? We never said don't take back that part of Kashmir back. We are saying, why are you silent on the part that is with China?” Abdullah asked.

Larger banks and corporate-focused NBFCs should be a decent part of portfolio now: Sandip Sabharwal
Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says on a pure valuation basis, although many mid and smallcaps are looking very attractive right now, the initial up move as foreign funds come back, will be on the largecap side. The largecaps would move up first and then, small and midcaps could catch up. NBFCs, banks, the larger banks and the corporate-focused NBFCs, should be a decent part of the portfolio along with infrastructure-oriented companies. Auto should do well next year. What is it looking like in terms of macros with the RBI injecting further liquidity and crude significantly cooling off, while the tariff flip-flop continues. Does it seem like we could be close to bottoming out at an index level at least? Sandip Sabharwal: I mentioned on Monday that we are fully deployed because in our view risk-reward is extremely favourable in India. Given that the macros will be much better next year as liquidity improves, interest rates come down, government spending improves, and a lot of disruptions which were there last year are no longer there.

Markets reversing? Sudip Bandyopadhyay on 5 stocks to consider now
Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Group Chairman, Inditrade Capital, says post correction, some of the larger banks, particularly SBI, is looking very good for somebody willing to build a long-term portfolio, Apart from that, one can look at some of the down-and-out banks which took a hit because of multiple reasons, particularly asset quality issues on the microfinance book. IndusInd Bank is one bank which I will definitely recommend from a little aggressive investors’ point of view. It is a good time to start buying into IndusInd Bank as well. Among pharma companies, one can go for domestic focused pharma companies like Mankind Pharma and pharma companies having significant manufacturing facilities in the US like Piramal Pharma. The other stock Bandyopadhyay likes is a defence PSU. There is a significant opportunity for Bharat Electronics (BEL) to perform and outperform. This correction should be taken as an opportunity to accumulate this stock. Some of the markers seem to be reversing. Crude is on our side and now RBI also is pumping in a whole lot of liquidity in the system. Do you think that is enough to turn around the markets? Sudip Bandyopadhyay: Well, it may not be enough in the long term, but the short-term market is very much excited.

F1 Title @ 40: No one has done it In 59 years. Can Hamilton do it?
Lewis Hamilton isn’t about to let age stop him pursuing an historic eighth Formula 1 title with his new team Ferrari. An eighth world title would be an all-time record but winning after turning 40 has been a challenge for even the greatest drivers in F1 history. No driver has won a race past the age of 40 since 1994, and there’s hasn’t been a 40-plus world champion in 59 years. Hamilton told Time last month he rejects comparisons with older drivers “past or present.” He added: “I’m hungry, driven, don’t have a wife and kids. I’m focused on one thing, and that’s winning.” The 2025 season starts next week in Melbourne, Australia. Here’s a look at the successes and failures of F1 greats after reaching the age of 40:

With NCLT nod in place, business services provider Quess to list new firms on exchanges in two months
Quess Corp will list its two new entities Bluspring Enterprises and Digitide Solutions in two months, the company founder-chairman Ajit Isaac told ET on Thursday. The Bengaluru-headquartered company with diverse businesses is moving swiftly to cement the independent identities of new firms. “We are among the few companies that have been on course on the demerger scheme,” Isaac said. The company began the process of demerger two years ago which helped it plan the leadership and governance structures well in advance. The two new companies are a result of the deployment of capital raised through an IPO about eight years ago. “This is a proof of our capital allocation strategy,” he added.

Jio's growth could lift Reliance, but retail and oil businesses still lag: Pankaj Pandey
«We are still some time away from paint stocks bottoming out. We have seen players like Asian Paints, the margin profile coming down from say 20% plus kind of a level to about 15-16 odd,» says Pankaj Pandey, Head Research, ICICIdirect.com. Just wanted your own sense on what Tesla's entry into India, if all gets cleared, actually means for the incumbents from within the passenger vehicle segment within that segment. Your namely Tata Motors, M&M, and a Hyundai as well. Pankaj Pandey: So, our sense is that when you look at the cheapest price product from Tesla, the overall costing is going to be in excess of 40 lakhs. So, from that perspective, it is not going to compete with the listed players. Probably it will have or it is going to compete with the likes of German manufacturers, especially BMW, Mercedes, and others.

Prefer largecaps now but one can be stock-specific in small and midcaps: Shibani Sircar Kurian
Shibani Sircar Kurian, Senior EVP, Sr. Fund Manager & Head -Equity Research, Kotak AMC, says that a considerable number of stocks are trading almost 50% lower than their 52-week high. So, some degree of valuation comfort is coming in. We are approaching this market by looking at stocks with earning visibility. Largecaps continue to offer better risk-reward as compared to mid and smallcaps as a pack. However, within mid and smallcaps, there are definite points of opportunity and we would use these corrections to look at these particular segments and stock in terms of allocation. Help us with your take on the markets because some are calling out a near-term bottom in place and also trying to look out for some more opportunities. We saw a bit of a rebound on Wednesday. What is your reading? Shibani Sircar Kurian: Since December of last year, the volatility has been on the back of global as well as domestic factors and some of these uncertainties still remain. However, what we must also understand is that when we look at markets, the Nifty itself has corrected almost 13-14% from its highs. Similarly, the midcap and smallcap indices have seen a greater correction. More importantly, at a stock level, the correction has been even steeper than what the headline indices seem to suggest.

'India's pace of growth is key driver for Radisson': Federico J Gonzalez
Radisson Hotel Group and the chain should aim to have 500 hotels in the country by 2030, its executive vice chairman, Federico J Gonzalez, told ET in an exclusive interview. «India should be our number one country in the world in terms of number of hotels. The economic growth in India is significant. But, besides the economic growth and the growth in population and infrastructure, the ambition and dynamism of Indians is one of a kind,» said Gonzalez. «Everybody you meet here wants to do more and wants to grow. I think when we see that kind of mindset in a country, we need to make sure we maximise the growth,» he said. «Do we have a plan to get to 500 hotels in India by 2030? No. But, should we have the ambition to do this, considering the pace at which India is growing? Absolutely, yes.» Gonzalez said the efforts being put in place by the government to improve infrastructure and government plans to develop 50 tourist destinations can be key growth drivers for the Belgium-headquartered chain. Radisson Hotel Group said on Monday its strategy is to have 240 hotels in operation and under development in India by the end of 2025, driven by a «strategic focus» on tier-two and three markets and the increasing demand for luxury lifestyle and midscale accommodations.
