End of pain? Portfolios churning from momentum to value-driven quality stocks now: Deven Choksey
Deven Choksey, MD, DRChoksey FinServ Pvt. Ltd, says we appear to be passing through a painful adjustment phase in the market and we could be at the end of the pain. As of now it appears that the portfolios are shifting into quality stocks. When the markets were surging, most of the funds, including the family offices, were carrying the momentum portfolio, which they are swapping now into the value-driven stocks by selling some of the expensive stocks and that is one of the reasons we are seeing continued pressure in some of the mid and smallcap companies. What is it that you think the market is up to because yesterday's FII sell-figure was a little bit discomforting and quite large at Rs 6,000 crore. Deven Choksey: The summer has already set in as far as the market is concerned. It is quite hot out here, suffocating. So, nothing new. FIIs continue to deliver their shares in the cash market. Having done the transactions and the short sold in the derivative market, the deliveries are now happening in the cash market. What we are seeing in the delivery figure in the cash market out there, whatever the hedge or the short sell that they have done is definitely creating a larger amount of panic in the market.

Tech stocks a long-term play despite recent corrections and valuation fluctuations: Ajay Argal
«There could be some pickup in consumption because we are kind of seeing a subtle shift of the market driver from the investments to the consumption,» says Ajay Argal, Franklin Templeton. So, what could be the turn moment for market? Could it be just time, you have to just wait it out, this year will be a tough year, nothing happens, but then after six months suddenly markets will look attractive, earnings would kick in. I mean, do you think this market will have to just grind itself? Ajay Argal: So, that is one way of doing it. Yes, so that is what you are referring to is the time correction and I mean, if you look at Nifty for example, we might be 5% or 10% above the last ten-year averages or the five-year averages in terms of valuations.

Market correction presenting opportunity for long-term investors: Milind Karmarkar
«So, there is uncertainty. I definitely agree. And as you said that there is de-globalisation, there is a tariff threat which is there,» says Milind Karmarkar, Dalal & Broacha. Last time when we met, there were excesses. There were excesses in the small and the midcaps. There were excesses on the upside, but are there excesses on the downside now? Milind Karmarkar: So, it is like this. Yes, the market has corrected and normally, whenever the market corrects, it corrects very viciously and that is what has happened. How long it will continue, I really do not know. But do I see upside from here? Yes, I do see an upside. And this is not the end of the bull market, as you say. There is a lot more still going to happen. And as I think Templeton has said, I do not remember, that whenever there is blood on the street and even if it is your own blood, that is the time to buy, so that I think will answer the question.

4 popular global investment strategies discounting Trump as a lot of fury & fire: Ajay Bagga
Ajay Bagga, Market Expert, says the market now predominantly favours long positions in gold, emerging market debt, US equities, and Chinese technology stocks. These four investment strategies are currently popular on a global scale, yet none appear to adequately account for the potential impact of Trump’s tariffs. Bagga says the market appears somewhat complacent. The true implications will likely become clearer in the next two to three months. April 1st is expected to be a crucial date, as it marks the beginning of announcements regarding the implementation of tariffs, followed by additional updates starting April 2nd. A lot of these news plays are flowing around with respect to the threat related to tariff, the emerging market flows etc. What is your view on the broader market space and any pockets of opportunity that you are spotting right now because though the consensus view or the buy is in the largecap space, does any niche pocket within the broader market look interesting to you? Ajay Bagga: Right now, no. I would say let us hold on for the broader markets right now. Overall if you see the global macro, what are the global bond markets telling you, what are the global currency markets telling you, stock markets are still complacent, they are not believing the Trump threats, the Trump strategy is to shock, then negotiate, then come to a deal which might be a one-tenth or one-twentieth of the original ask.
