The flagship firm of Indian billionaire Gautam Adani’s group plans to raise as much as 8 billion rupees ($95.3 million) through the issuance where 60% of the amount is reserved for high networth and retail individuals, according to its prospectus. Another 30% is for non-institutional investors such as corporates, while the remaining 10% is for institutional buyers.

President Droupadi Murmu has delegated powers to the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena to constitute and appoint members to any authority, board, commission, or statutory body under any law enacted by the Parliament that is applicable to the national capital, the Ministry of Home Affairs said. The gazette notification issued by the MHA on Tuesday said «In pursuance of clause (1) of article 239 of the Constitution read with section 45D of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991 (1 of 1992), the President hereby directs that the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi shall, subject to the control of the President and until further orders, exercise the powers of the President under clause (a) of section 45D of the said Act for constitution of any authority, board, commission or any statutory body by whatever name it may be called, or for appointment of any Government officer or ex officio member to such authority, board, commission or any statutory body. It is likely to cause a fresh showdown between the LG and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government in the union territory.

Maharashtra government and Indian Navy trade charges over the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue in Sindhudurg on August 26, defence sources told ET that a detailed maintenance schedule was shared with state authorities for its general upkeep. According to the sources, the Navy handed over the statue to the Maharashtra government in April, but it suspects that periodic checks were not carried out by the authorities. «As per initial assessment, rusting happened at the joints near nuts and bolts. Had the maintenance schedule shared by the Navy been followed by local authorities, rusting could have been fixed and the statue might not have collapsed,» a source told ET.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached a nearly ₹10 lakh fixed deposit of an accused in the alleged leak of medical entrance exam question paper, people in the know said. The agency had launched a probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act based on an FIR registered by CBI. It had issued summons to some of the accused. After conducting a preliminary investigation and identifying the alleged proceeds of crime, it attached the fixed deposit of one of the accused, the people said. The probe is continuing, and the agency is likely to attach the assets of more co-accused in the near future, they said. Last month, the Supreme Court, refusing to order a retest of the NEET-undergraduate examination, told the National Testing Agency that it «cannot afford to misstep, take an incorrect decision and amend it at a later stage». Instead, it should maintain the «highest standards of security and reliability» in conducting important competitive examinations, the top court told the testing agency that conducts the NEET and several other competitive exams.

THDC India Ltd on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government for six pumped hydro storage projects of 6,790 MW capacity that entails an investment of more than Rs33,600 crore. The agreement will facilitate in conducting surveys, investigations, and preparation of detailed project reports as well as in establishing projects in a time-bound manner. This initiative will enable THDC to harness the untapped potential of pumped storage projects in Maharashtra, the government said. The six planned projects under this agreement are the Malshej Ghat pumped storage project of 700 MW, the Aruna project of 1,950 MW, the Kharari project 1,250 MW, the Humbarli Birmani project of 1,000 MW, the Aruna Kolamb project of 1,200 MW, and the Morawadi Majarewadi project of 690 MW.

Supreme Court has directed the registrar general of the Madras High Court to furnish a report following a claim by the Central Bureau of Investigation that a Madras High Court judge passed a single line order in its case but made the detailed order available after he demitted office. A division bench of justices Abhay Oka and Augustine George Masih was informed that the operative portion of the judgment was delivered before the judge retired. But the detailed judgment was made available on the high court website only after Justice T Mathivanan demitted office in May 2017. The judgment pertained to quashing a corruption case filed by CBI against an IRS officer.

The minister said this will be done while ensuring regular performance audits of all under-construction projects. Addressing the second edition of Tunnelling India conference organised by Ficci on Tuesday, Gadkari favoured giving a majority 51% stake to foreign partners in joint ventures for building tunnels and detailed project reports to improve work quality, saying it will ensure that only serious and technically qualified players bid for tunnel projects.

Congress is exploring the possibility of an alliance with AAP in poll-bound Haryana. The INDIA bloc partners had stated earlier that their electoral understanding was restricted to the Lok Sabha polls, when Congress contested nine out of 10 seats in the state and AAP one. However, there has been a growing realisation that if the two parties were to fight the assembly elections separately it could mean fragmentation of anti-BJP votes. According to people privy to talks, AAP has sought 10 out of 90 assembly seats but Congress is willing to part with seven. Two rounds of talks have taken place between AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chaddha and Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, they said, adding another round of talks will take place soon.

Maoists, including six women, were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, taking the total number of killings in the state this year to an all-time high of 154 deaths (in graphics). The gunfight broke out at around 10.30 am in the forests along the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts when a joint team of security forces was out on an anti-Maoist operation, said inspector general of police, Bastar range, Sundarraj P. Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard and the Central Reserve Police Force were involved in the operation, which was launched based on inputs about the presence of Maoists belonging to its west Bastar division unit, according to CRPF officials. The intermittent exchange of fire lasted for a long time, following which bodies of nine Maoists in 'uniform' were recovered from the spot, they added. A huge cache of weapons was also seized from the encounter site. Union home minister Amit Shah, during his three-day visit last month, had said that the government is committed to completely eradicating Maoism from the country before March 2026. Shah has also sought the creation of a special investigation agency in states for probe and prosecution on the lines of National Investigation Agency and has urged Chhattisgarh government to come up with a new surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy.

The Prime Minister was received by Brunei's Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin. Brunei's Minister of Health Dato Dr. Haji Mohammad Isham was also in attendance. A gathering of Indian community members were also present to greet the Prime Minister. The mosque is named after Omar Ali Saifuddien III, the 28th Sultan of Brunei (father of the current Sultan, who also initiated its construction), and was completed in 1958. Earlier upon his arrival, PM Modi inaugurated the new Chancery premises of the High Commission of India in Brunei.

Karnataka is expected to pitch for GST exemption on health and life insurance only on such products used by the working and lower middle classes at the upcoming GST Council meeting. The Congress-ruled state is not in favour of a blanket exemption on premium insurance products bought by the higher income groups, according to Krishna Byre Gowda, the state’s revenue minister who represents the southern state on the GST Council. “We are open to the issue,” he told ET, responding to queries on demands for the removal of 18% GST on life and health insurance premium. “We will suggest health and life insurance, which are more of a working class and lower middle class issue, should be looked at positively, regardless of revenue considerations,” Gowda said.

Triggering instability while claiming everything was hunky dory was part of politics. This situation has now led to leaders openly expressing a desire to occupy the CM’s chair, the senior BJP leader told the media at Gadag, a major town in his Lok Sabha constituency. The jostling among the Congress leaders had given the impression that the coveted post has become unstable. «While they claim everything is fine, internally there is political backstabbing,» Bommai said, referring to how some of the heavyweights in the Congress party were removed overnight. He gave the examples of the way the late leaders, Veerendra Patil, D Devaraj Urs, R Gundu Ro and S Bangarappa were shown the door despite being formidable leaders with a large following. This kind of politics would continue, he said.

Foreign direct investment in India jumped 47.8 per cent to USD 16.17 billion in April-June this fiscal on healthy inflows in services, computer, telecom and pharma sectors, according to government data. FDI inflows were at USD 10.94 billion in April-June 2023-24. The data showed that overseas inflows in May rose to USD 5.85 billion and in June to USD 5.41 billion from USD 2.67 billion and USD 3.16 billion, respectively, in the year-ago period. In April, FDI inflows were down marginally at USD 4.91 billion against USD 5.1 billion in April 2023.

loan loss provisioning by publicly listed banks in the June quarter increased to a four-quarter high led by a select banks including public sector banks (PSBs) such as State Bank of India (SBI) and Central Bank of India and private sector banks such as Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Bandhan Bank. The sequential increase can be attributed to seasonal weakness in collections and higher delinquencies in the retail segment. For a sample of 29 banks, provisioning for non performing assets (NPAs) reached Rs 25,737.1 crore in the June 2024 quarter. On a sequential basis, these provisions rose by 11.3%, following an 18.3% increase in the previous quarter. The increase in provisioning in the June quarter was driven largely by the private sector banks, which posted a 38% sequential jump whereas the PSBs reported 2.9% drop in provisions.
