Vikram Misri will pay a two-day visit to Bhutan beginning Friday, in his first trip abroad after assuming charge of the top post. In Bhutanese capital Thimphu, Misri will meet Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Foreign Minister DN Dhungyel and Foreign Secretary Pema Choden among others. The foreign secretary's visit underscores the «highest priority» the government of India attaches to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said announcing the visit. «Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will pay an official visit to Bhutan from July 19-20, which will be his first visit abroad after taking over as the foreign secretary,» it said.

Bhopal: The Meteorological Office on Thursday issued a very heavy rainfall alert in some parts of Madhya Pradesh in the next 24 hours. The regional meteorologist has predicted that very heavy rainfall can be recorded from 115mm to 204 mm at six places in the state which include Sehore, Rajgarh, Agar Malwa, Sheopur Kalan and Morena. «A trough line is passing through Kota-Sagar-Pendra region, as a result of which there is a possibility of good rainfall in southern Madhya Pradesh. If we see the rainfall data received in the last 24 hours, it shows that Sehore and Pachmarhi recorded 90 mm rainfall. While if we talk about the next 24 hours then, an alert for very heavy rain has been issued for six places which include Sehore, Rajgarh, Agar Malwa, Sheopur Kalan and Morena where rainfall can be recorded from 115 mm to 204 mm,» B S Yadav, Meteorologist, IMD Bhopal.

In a statement, the company said it has invested Rs 190 crore in a project being developed by Kalpataru. «The project is an upper mid-segment project, located in Borivali West, comprising 310 units and is spread across 6 acres with a total saleable area of about 6.5 lakh square feet,» ASK Property Fund said.

New Delhi: Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice N Kotiswar Singh on Thursday took oath of office and became the first judge to have been elevated to the Supreme Court from Manipur. Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court R Mahadevan was also sworn in as judge of the apex court. Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud administered the oath of office to both judges at a function in the apex court premises here. With the swearing-in, the top court has attained its full strength of 34 judges, including the Chief Justice of India. The Supreme Court will function with 34 judges until Justice Hima Kohli retires on September 1, 2024, followed by CJI Chandrachud, who superannuates on November 10 this year.

The NSE Nifty index was trading 66.71 points down at 24546.3, while BSE Sensex was down 148.2 points at 80568.35 at the time of writing this report.

Nazara Technologies on Thursday fell up to 8% to Rs 845.65 on BSE after two of its subsidiaries got show cause notices in relation to Goods and Services Tax (GST) with a total liability of Rs 1,120 crore. The show cause notices were sent by the Director General of GST Intelligence, Kolkata to Openplay Technologies and Halaplay Technologies on Tuesday, July 16 for proposed liability of Rs 845.72 crore and Rs 274.21 crore, respectively, Nazara disclosed in a regulatory filing.

Indian Navy warship INS Teg is actively engaged in a search and rescue operation off the coast of Oman after an oil tanker capsized on July 15. As of now, the mission has successfully rescued eight Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan from the stricken vessel. The Indian Navy continues to search for additional crew members who remain missing. The operation was launched immediately after the tanker capsized, with INS Teg deploying advanced equipment and personnel to locate and assist the remaining crew. The Navy has coordinated with local Omauthorities and international maritime agencies to enhance the search efforts.

armed forces established brief contact with terrorists on Wednesday during the search operation in the Bhata Desa forest area of Doda district, where four Army personnel and a policeman were killed in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Village defence guards also opened fire on suspicious movement observed outside Melan village of the Desa area. Two explosive shells were recovered from the Sinoo forest area of Gandoh in the same district, where three infiltrators were killed on June 26 and a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including a US-made M4 carbine, were recovered. The exchange of fire took place within a span of a few hours during the search operation. However, no casualty or injuries were reported from either side. «Search operation is going on in the area, but they (terrorists) took advantage of the challenging terrain, thick forest and darkness and managed to flee,» said an official.

Supreme Court on Monday ordered that evidence shall not be recorded in a coal scandal involving M/s Revati Cements Private Limited till further orders. Many individuals and entities allegedly involved in the coal scandal had approached the top court seeking quashing of the proceedings initiated against them by the Enforcement Directorate as they have been made witness by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the predicate offence. The company had petitioned the top court challenging the order of the special CBI court trying the coal scandal.
