The retiring nominated members include Rakesh Sinha, Ram Shakal, Sonal Mansingh, and Mahesh Jethmalani. They had joined the BJP after their nomination to Rajya Sabha. Another nominated member currently with the BJP is Gulam Ali, who will retire in September 2028.

West Bengal Transport Department is set to introduce a uniform driving test module for driving licence applicants, aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of learning based on the prescribed syllabus, an official said on Monday. According to the official, the module will consist of a uniform computer-based question and answer test, which applicants will need to complete before taking the final driving test. Once approved, this module will be made available on the Transport Department's website. This decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Transport Secretary Saumitra Mohan, the official added.

Indian Army successfully eliminated three hardcore foreign terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran Sector of the Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir. As per the officials, on the intervening night of July 13-14, acting on credible inputs, multiple ambushes were laid along the appreciated route of infiltration. Elaborating on the encounter with the terrorists, Commander of the 268th Infantry Brigade, Keran Sector, Brigadier NR Kulkarni, said that they had intelligence inputs of terrorists trying to disturb normalcy in the area.

Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja group flagship has bagged an order for 2104 Viking passenger buses worth Rs981.45 crore from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), the company said in a statement. The company will execute the order—the single largest one from the state corporation for supply of BSVI OBD II (on board diagnostic) compliant fully built passenger buses from August 2024 to August 2025. This will further contribute to strengthening Ashok Leyland's dominant position in the bus segment, it said. MSRTC is one of the largest state transport undertakings in the country with over 15,000 buses. With this order, Ashok Leyland buses will dominate its fleet.

New Delhi: Waaree Renewable Technologies on Monday said it has received a Rs 90-crore solar power project to be developed on a turnkey basis. The project is scheduled to be completed in ongoing financial year 2024-25, Waaree Renewable Technologies Ltd (WAAREERTL) said in an exchange filing. «WAAREERTL has received a Letter of Award (LOA) for the execution of Engineering, Procurement and Construction works for solar power project of 30 MW DC capacity on turnkey basis,» it said. The order values Rs 90.29 crore excluding taxes, it added.

The curative petition against the dismissal of earlier pleas seeking correction of alleged errors in AGR-related dues is yet to be listed before a bench, the telecom firm said. «I will see,» the CJI said and asked whether an email has been sent in this regard.

Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) reported a 46.6% increase in its net profit to Rs 1,293 crore for the June quarter. The Pune-based lender had earned a net profit of Rs 882 crore in the year-ago period. During the quarter, the bank's total income increased to Rs 6,769 crore, up from Rs 5,417 crore a year ago, according to a regulatory filing.

Police arrested three persons for allegedly waving a Palestinian flag during a procession in Bihar's Nawada district, an officer said on Monday. Police launched an investigation after a video showing some persons waving Palestinian flag at a procession ahead of Muharram in the Dhamaula area on Sunday, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Pakribarawan, Mahesh Choudhary told PTI. «An investigation was immediately launched. On the basis of the investigation carried out by the local police, three persons were arrested on the charge of waving a Palestinian flag during the procession», the SDPO said. He said the procession was taken out without mandatory permission from the authorities concerned. The Palestinian flag was immediately seized, Choudhary added.

We have also tried to reach their residence but they are not available,» SP Deshmukh told ANI. Vedanta group firm Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL) on Monday said it has contributed Rs 13,195 crore to the exchequer in the last financial year, representing about 46 per cent of its total revenues. In FY 2023-24, Hindustan Zinc's total contribution to the exchequer stood at Rs 13,195 crores, the Vedanta group firm said in a regulatory filing. With this, HZL's cumulative contribution to the exchequer over the past five years stood at Rs 77,803 crore. «As our businesses grow, so will these numbers. At Hindustan Zinc, we are committed to continuing to do business with a purpose in a manner that is sustainable, transparent and creates value for all our stakeholders,» Hindustan Zinc Chairperson Priya Agarwal Hebbar said.

The blaze primarily affected a uniform manufacturing shop and a nearby cafe located close to Neelam Mata Temple. Indian Navy's frontline warships carried out a mega military exercise with the Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group of the US in the Indian Ocean, demonstrating the growing strategic congruence between the two sides in the key maritime domain. The USS Theodore Roosevelt is a Nimitz-class, nuclear-powered, aircraft carrier of the US Navy. A carrier battle group or carrier strike group is a mega naval fleet comprising an aircraft carrier, accompanied by a large number of destroyers, frigates and other ships. The Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group operated alongside forces from the Indian Navy in the Indian Ocean on July 12, the US embassy said in a readout.
