Tariff hikes by the top three telcos will help increase the average revenue per user by 15 per cent, and expand the operating profit by over 20 per cent in FY25, a domestic rating agency said on Monday. The 20 per cent hikes by the telcos after a two and half year hiatus can expand telcos' profit before interest lease depreciation and tax (PBILDT) by 20-22 per cent in FY25, Care Ratings said in a report. It termed the same as a «structural positive» for the telecom sector struggling on the Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) front because of the huge investments in 5G rollout, including spectrum purchases, it said. An analysis by the rating agency revealed that the hikes will improve the telcos' blended average revenue per user (ARPU) by about 15 per cent to Rs 220 in FY25 from around Rs 191 in FY24.

MMRDA to evaluate settling the Rs 1,700 crore debt owed by Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) to its creditors through a one-time settlement. Metro 1, the oldest in Mumbai which currently serves 4.6 lakh passengers daily, is the only corridor executed through a public-private partnership. It is run by a special purpose vehicle, the Reliance Infrastructure-promoted MMOPL. MMRDA has a 26 per cent stake in the SPV, while Anil Ambani's R-Infra holds 74 per cent. There are six lenders in all: State Bank of India, IDBI Bank, Canara Bank, Indian Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, and IIFCL (UK).

Bombay High Court has directed Patanjali Ayurved to deposit Rs 50 lakh for alleged breach of the HC's interim order restraining it from selling its camphor products, in relation to a trademark infringement case filed by another company. Following trademark infringement allegations by Mangalam Organics Ltd, the HC in an interim order in August 2023 restrained Patanjali Ayurved Ltd from selling its camphor products. A single bench of Justice R I Chagla on July 8 noted that Patanjali, in an affidavit submitted in June, admitted breach of the earlier order granting injunction against sale of the impugned camphor products. «Such persistent breach of the injunction order dated 30th August 2023 by defendant no. 1 (Patanjali) cannot be tolerated by this court,» Justice Chagla said in the order, a copy of which was made available on Wednesday.

Terming the tragedy as an «unfortunate incident», Venugopal, General Secretary (Organisation) said Gandhi will interact with the affected people during his visit. The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a judicial probe into the Hathras tragedy.

There was no immediate reaction from the BJP on his claims. «His health condition is such that if he is not brought out of jail soon and provided medical care, any serious incident may happen with him,» Singh said at a press conference. He said Kejriwal's weight was 70 kg when he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in the excise policy-linked money laundering case. Now, his weight has reduced to 61.5 kg, he claimed.

Delhi High Court has rejected a petition against the Competition Commission of India's last year’s order that approved the merger of Tata SIA Airlines, which operates under the brand name Vistara, with Air India. Tata SIA Airlines is a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines. While one Captain Deepak Kumar, a former Air India pilot, had alleged cartelisation and bid rigging in the merger of the two airlines, the antitrust watchdog had in December dismissed his plea, noting the absence of any substantive evidence to back the allegations.

June against Rs 13,316.81 crore in the corresponding month last year, an improvement of about 11.12 per cent, according to a statement.«During the month of June 2024, originating freight loading of 135.46 MT has been achieved against loading of 123.06 MT in June 2023, which is an improvement of approx 10.07 per cent over the last year,» the Railway Board said in the statement. It added that freight revenue of «Rs 14,798.11 crore was achieved in June against Rs 13,316.81 crore freight earnings in June 2023, thereby showing an improvement of about 11.12 per cent over the last year». The railways achieved loading of 60.27 MT in coal, 8.82 MT in imported coal, 15.07 MT in iron ore, 5.36 MT in pig iron and finished steel, 7.56 MT in cement, 5.28 MT in clinker, 4.21 MT in foodgrain, 5.30 MT in fertiliser, 4.18 MT in mineral oil, 6.97 MT in containers and 10.06 MT in balance other goods during June this year, according to the railway ministry.

Telangana Congress MLC MS Prabhakar Rao on Saturday took a swipe at the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) claiming that the party's leaders had been «suffocating» due to lack of communication and democracy within the party. Rao who recently switched to the Congress from the BRS said that the decision of the BRS party chief was deemed final in the party, and as a result, most of the MLAs and MLCs were not allowed to speak at all. Speaking to on Saturday, Rao said, «There is a lack of democracy in the BRS party. Most of the leaders are suffocating there. It is a regional party. Whatever decision is taken by the party chief is final. So, most of the MLAs and MLCs were suffocating in this BRS party as they were not allowed to speak at all.»

Agartala: Raju Barman, the primary accused in the murder of Tripura's Bharat Ratna Sangha Club Secretary Durga Prasanna Deb (also known as Vicky), was remanded to eight days of police custody on Friday. According to officials, Barman was caught from Assam's Guwahati and brought back to Tripura on Thursday. On Friday, he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in West Tripura, who ordered his police custody until July 20. Special Public Prosecutor Sankar Lodh provided details of the case, saying, «Raju Barman was arrested from Guwahati two days ago. He was produced before the local magistrate for a transit remand, which was granted with the condition that he be brought before the Tripura court by July 12. Following this, he was presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of West Tripura, where the court granted an eight-day police custody. The police had requested 10-day custody, while the defence sought bail.»

Power Grid Corporation board on Wednesday approved a proposal to increase the borrowing limit to Rs 15,000 crore from Rs 12,000 crore for 2024-25 through various instruments. The board has also fixed the borrowing limit at Rs 16,000 crore for 2025-26. The Board of Directors of Power Grid, in their meeting held on 10th July 2024, have accorded the following approvals for borrowing funds of up to Rs 16,000 crore during the financial year (FY) 2025-26 through various sources, including domestic bonds (Secured/ unsecured, non-convertible, non-cumulative, redeemable, taxable/tax-free under private placement), a BSE filing said.
