coal production rose by 14.49 per cent to 84.63 million tonne (MT) in June. The country's coal output was 73.92 MT in June last fiscal, according to provisional figures of the government. In June Coal India Ltd's (CIL) production was at 63.10 MT, registering a rise of 8.87 per cent compared to the same period last year, the coal ministry said in a statement.

The bank will now directly manage the microloan portfolio that was previously managed by ESMACO through banking outlets. This move aims to mitigate concentration risks while allowing ESMACO, a promoter group entity of the bank, to continue managing business operations at the Customer Service Centers. The micro banking vertical, created with a 5,197-strong workforce, will primarily serve the needs of the rural population through micro-loans, agriculture loans, vehicle loans, and home loans, ESAF Small Finance Bank Managing Director K Paul Thomas said. The bank is also designing liability products to suit the needs of low and middle-income savers, he added.

India is considering setting up an underwater biodiversity research lab to study the different kinds of flora and fauna on the seabed, and at varying depths, to explore their potential for human consumption. The lab, part of the government's long-term vision of making India a developed nation by 2047, is being conceptualized under the Deep Ocean Mission and will be set up in the Indian Ocean. It seeks to make India a transnational and regional hub for marine biology and biotechnology research. A senior government official told ET that the underwater lab will be technologically one of the most advanced and will be used for exploration and conservation of deep-sea biodiversity. «The proposal is at a concept stage and several rounds of deliberation between key stakeholders will be held before it gets onto the drawing board,» the official quoted above said.
