‘Ukraine will be part of NATO...work to gain membership going on’, says Volodymyr Zelensky
On the eve of the NATO Summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky exuded confidence that the war-torn country will become part of the alliance. In a press statement on Monday night, Zelensky said, "We are still working on the wording, that is, on the specific words of such confirmation, but we already understand the fact that Ukraine will be in the alliance...And we are working to make the algorithm for gaining membership as clear and fast as possible". European diplomats said that the Western allies of Kyiv are still finalising a joint framework that would pave the way for long-term security assurances for Ukraine, and may wait until the end of a NATO summit this week to announce them.

Regulatory framework for large startups soon
NEW DELHI : The corporate affairs ministry will examine the need for a new regulatory regime for large startups that have grown beyond a certain size to ensure their governance systems become more robust without compromising on ease of doing business, a person familiar with the development said. A panel of experts advising the ministry—company law committee—will examine this shortly, the person said on the condition of anonymity. The move comes at a time many Indian startups have achieved scale, have become hugely valuable and have raised large amounts of private capital, but their management capability to handle the governance and compliance obligations in line with their size has raised concerns.

Senators Ready to Grill the PGA Tour About Its Saudi Deal
When the PGA Tour viewed the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league as an existential threat, it counted politicians among its most prominent allies. A Senate hearing on Tuesday will be a public gauge of how dramatically and quickly that support transformed into antagonism. Tour officials will appear before the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations for a first hearing on the agreement between the Tour and Saudi Arabia’s sovereign-wealth fund—a pact between bitter enemies that shocked the golf world and quickly drew the ire of Capitol Hill.

Why investment adviser rules need a relook
Market regulator Sebi had created a new category of Investment Advisers (IA) vide its IA Regulations, 2013. IAs were to act as a fiduciary to the client and earn from fees paid by them. There were many stipulations on education, experience, certification, compliance, disclosures, etc., which the IAs have had to comply with. Ten years on, the IA community has shrunk to just 926 members (as per the numbers registered with BSEASL as of early July), down from over 1,300. This does not augur well for the industry when the intention was to make available high quality, client-centric advice to investors at large. Thus, a relook at the 2013 regulation is necessary.

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) virus: All you need to know about the virus spreading across Europe, Africa, Middle East due to climate change
CCHF) virus, which poses a significant public health risk, is spreading across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, with concerns of its potential impact being exacerbated by climate change. CCHF is primarily transmitted by ticks and carries a fatality rate ranging from 10 to 40 percent. Instances of CCHF have already been reported in Spain and Pakistan, raising concerns about the possibility of its emergence in the United Kingdom. According to James Wood, head of veterinary medicine at Cambridge University, CCHF could eventually make its way to the UK due to the presence of ticks. He noted that the disease is expanding beyond its typical regions and progressing toward countries like Britain and France, largely due to the effects of climate change. Given the urgency of the situation, the government has issued a crucial health advisory regarding CCHF, urging individuals to take preventive measures against ticks. These precautions involve wearing appropriate clothing, such as long sleeves and trousers, when in areas inhabited by ticks, as well as conducting thorough tick checks after outdoor activities.

Commodities Week Ahead: Taut Nerves in Oil, Gold Markets Ahead of CPI
The softer US jobs report for June is only one facet of the risk driver that oil and gold need this week. To complete the picture, Wednesday’s Consumer Price Index, or CPI, report for last month will have to be just as soft to dial down the Federal Reserve’s hawkishness, ensuring the central bank doesn’t go beyond two more rate hikes this year — better still, one.
