India rejects comments by UN's top human rights official on foreign influence laws
India has rejected a comment by the UN's top human rights official on foreign influence laws, saying principles of «transparency and accountability cannot be applied selectively.» India's Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva Ambassador Arindam Bagchi, said he «humbly disagrees» with the brief reference to India made by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk in his Global Update 56th session of the Human Rights Council this week. Turk had said in his global update that a «worrying trend in terms of civic space is the consideration or adoption of so-called „transparency“ or „foreign influence“ laws in over 50 countries, including in the Republika Srpska entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, India, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Slovakia and Turkiye. These laws risk having serious chilling effects on the work of civil society, freedom of expression and of association.»

Germany has a special work programme for Indian nurses looking for jobs abroad
Germany is facing a dearth of skilled nursing staff as there are not enough qualified nurses available to meet the high level of demand. Experts anticipate that approximately another 500,000 nurses will be needed by the year 2030. Moreover, the scarcity is expected to exacerbate in the medium and long term due to demographic shifts. The Triple Win Programme was established in 2013 by the German Federal Employment Agency's International Placement Services (ZAV) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH for the migration of qualified nurses with German companies. Think you check all the immigration boxes? Find out The project facilitates migration of healthcare personnel from India (specifically from Kerala), Indonesia, the Philippines, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Tunisia. The collaborative efforts of the Federal Employment Agency and GIZ involve the placement of skilled nurses from overseas to work in Germany. The program operates under an agreement between the German Federal Employment Agency (BA) and Norka Roots, focusing on the selection and placement of nursing professionals.

Indians were granted the most number of German Work Visas in 2022
Indians were granted a total of 17,379 work visas last year, Federal Foreign Office of Germany said. Germany granted a total of 152,336 national work visas to foreigners in 2022, representing a significant increase compared to 2021. Out of the total visas issued to Indians, 8,613 work visas were granted by the German Consulate General in Bangalore. The second-highest number of work visas for Indians was granted by the German Consulate General in Mumbai (3,013), followed by the Consulate General in Chennai (2,483), the German Embassy in New Delhi (2,434), and the German Consulate in Kolkata (836). Turkish nationals are the second-largest beneficiaries of work visas issued by Germany followed by Bosnians, Kosovars, Russians, Albanians, and North Macedonians. This comes at a time when German cabinet on Wednesday passed a draft bill to ease the citizenship law, hoping a faster track to German nationality will attract skilled migrants to plug chronic labour shortages holding back Europe's biggest economy. Some experts caution that progress may be slow, noting parts of Germany's administrative machinery are already creaking under a big backlog of existing citizenship applications.
