India's largest container port JNPA engages investment banks for planned IPO
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. The government is exploring an initial public offering for the country's largest container port, managed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, and has engaged state-backed investment banks to initiate the regulatory processes for the share sale, two people aware of the matter told Mint. The process remains in the earliest stages, with no valuation discussions yet and no timeline set, the people said, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private. The focus is on preparing JNPA for the compliance and reporting standards required of a publicly listed organization—this is something that is needed before pricing or deal structuring can commence."The process is in the preliminary stages and involves multiple layers of departmental approvals," said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.

Video pitch, assessment, socials scan—hiring goes beyond CVs
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. As artificial intelligence (AI) makes resumes increasingly polished and tailored for automated hiring systems, recruiters are rethinking how much a traditional curriculum vitae (CV) really reveals about a candidate. Hiring teams are now leaning more on assessments, video introductions and digital footprints to judge skills, communication and workplace fit, reflecting a wider shift in hiring. The discussion is being shaped by a simple concern: If AI tools can make every resume look polished and application tracking system (ATS) friendly, do they still tell recruiters anything meaningful about the candidate? For many hiring teams, the answer is now no.“AI is making CVs look almost identical, which puts more pressure on hiring managers and reduces the value of the resume as a standalone hiring tool,” said Kamal Karanth, cofounder of specialist staffing firm Xpheno.

The great fuel hedge: can EVs become a solution to India's ICE volatility
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories.India’s automotive sector is navigating what can only be described as a “perfect storm” — geopolitical instability, rising crude prices, currency weakness and tightening emission norms. With 90% crude oil import dependence, Brent crude crossing $110 per barrel, and the rupee at a record low of ₹95.40/USD (as on 5 May), the economics of internal combustion engine (ICE) ownership are under strain. At the same time, regulatory shifts — E20 ethanol blending and BS6 Stage 2 norms — are reshaping the cost structure of conventional vehicles. In this environment, electric vehicles (EVs) are transitioning from being a green alternative to a fiscal hedge. For Indian consumers, electric mobility is increasingly looking like a viable long-term solution.India’s 90% crude import dependency makes it acutely exposed to the West Asia war.

Small IPOs face listing delays as mutual funds turn selective amid broader market volatilities

In the ₹2,000–3,000 crore range, deals need sharper differentiation on growth, quality, and valuation to see strong traction,” said Raghav Gupta, joint chief executive officer, IIFL Capital.

The quest to use AI to help find new drugs
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories.Eli Lilly Chief Executive Dave Ricks was on stage with Nvidia founder Jensen Huang earlier this year in San Francisco touting the company’s tech prowess when Huang teased him about the painstaking process of developing new drugs.“I’m really hoping that your industry moves from drug discovery which is kind of like wandering around the forest looking for truffles,” Huang said, in front of a crowd of biotech and pharma investors.Indeed, Ricks and the rest of the pharmaceutical industry are looking to expand beyond collecting soil samples and bark pieces to find new drugs and are instead turning their hopes—and investment dollars—to AI. Lilly first announced a partnership with chip-maker Nvidia in October to build what it called the industry’s most powerful supercomputer, and expanded that in January with a $1 billion, five-year collaboration mixing their scientists and engineers in a new Bay Area lab aimed at discovering new medicines with AI tools. They aren’t alone.

Fintech funding tilts to software, infra amid regulatory tightening
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories.Early-stage fintech investors in India are shifting away from consumer-facing models that are heavily regulated and pivoting to software and infrastructure businesses that promise steady growth with minimal policy risk.Funds are increasingly backing software, infrastructure and B2B fintech models with AI that are less exposed to regulatory shocks, experts said. The shift follows a reset between 2021 and 2025, when tighter rules on digital lending, first-loss default guarantees and data governance curbed growth and raised compliance costs, pushing investors to favour B2B models over balance-sheet lenders.Data from Tracxn over the last 24 months showed that investors are becoming more selective within fintech, with capital moving toward software and infrastructure layers rather than large consumer-facing models.Funding picked up in areas such as payments infrastructure, which more than doubled, wealth-tech management platforms, which rose sharply by up to four times, and software tools for fund managers, where investments increased nearly eight-fold.In contrast, investor interest cooled in consumer payments, which fell about 60%, online lending, down roughly 16%, and online trading platforms, where funding more than halved over the same period.“Consumer fintech is crowded and heavily regulated and as a fund we don’t see too many white spaces,” said Sahil Anand, founder and managing partner at Cedar Hill Capital, a new fintech fund. While private equity and venture capital investors are not abandoning lending or regulated fintech in the growth to late stages, those bets have become selective, favouring scaled, profitable firms.Investors have become selective towards firms that have adapted

Three power transmission companies with strong project pipelines

Elephant in the boardroom: Indian companies must learn to be more open about mental health
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Will we reach a maturity level in our workplaces where a company can ask for a mental health check the same way it asks for a physical test after rolling out a job offer but before signing the final appointment letter? When attention deficit disorder (ADD), cortisol spikes and high cholesterol are openly discussed in water-cooler conversation, why is mental health not a factor that needs to be gauged before an employment contract is signed?According to a senior partner at one of New Delhi’s most prominent law firms, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016 states that one is prohibited from discriminating against a candidate based on the Act’s stipulated list of disabilities, unless proportionate to a legitimate objective.A note released by the Press Information Bureau in December 2025 said that the same law defines a ‘person with disability’ as “someone who has a long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairment which, in interaction with barriers, hinders their full and effective participation in society equally with others.” While employers cannot be biased during the hiring process, they can take a final call depending on the role’s needs. If the mental health conditions of candidates may obstruct their work efficacy, should employers not be informed of such diagnoses? Maybe not under present workplace dynamics.
