Morocco after a devastating earthquake there. The money will go to aid organisations already active in the disaster zone, Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna told the BFM broadcaster. Colonna brushed off questions about the absence of any official Moroccan request for aid from France. Morocco is «sovereign» and «alone entitled to determine what its needs are», she said. Relations between France and Morocco are strained, notably because of French President Emmanuel Macron's efforts to forge closer ties with Algeria, Morocco's neighbour. A planned visit by Macron to Morocco has still to be confirmed, and Morocco's ambassador post in France has been empty for months. Asked why Morocco had accepted official aid from Spain and the United Kingdom among others, but not France, Colonna said «this debate is inappropriate». «People are suffering.

Career Enterprise country Scotland is the latest country to begin trials for a four-day workweek
Scotland is set to introduce pilot schemes that will let select civil servants to transition to a four-day workweek. The pilot programs are slated for various government departments and agencies and are aimed at exploring the feasibility and benefits of a reduced workweek. This initiative, outlined in the 2023-24 Programme for Government (PfG), details the government's plans for the upcoming year and aims to evaluate the potential benefits of reduced working hours. The pilot program's main objective, as stated in the document, is to assess the well-being, environmental impact, and productivity gains that could be achieved through the adoption of a four-day workweek in the public sector. The pilot is expected to run for approximately one year and may involve arm's-length bodies rather than ministerial departments. Certain government enterprise agencies, responsible for fostering economic development in Scottish regions, have expressed interest in participating in the trial. The United Kingdom conducted its largest-ever trial of the four-day workweek just last year. Nearly 3,000 employees across 61 organizations embraced a shorter workweek for six months. The majority of employers opted to retain the four-day workweek model when the experiment concluded. They attributed this decision to increased revenues, reduced staff turnover, and mitigated worker burnout as the key drivers of their choice.

Manufacturing BMW Southern show BMW to make 'multi-million' pound investment in UK plants: Govt

The money will be used to «transform» BMW's plant in Oxford, southern England, «securing 4,000 high-quality jobs and strengthening the electric vehicle supply chain,» the government said in a press release. «BMW's investment is another shining example of how the UK is the best place to build cars of the future,» said Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. «By backing our car manufacturing industry, we are securing thousands of jobs and growing our economy right across the country,» he added, with his government having offered tens-of-millions of pounds in support for BMW. The first generation of the iconic British vehicle's electric model was launched at the Oxford plant in 2019, but last year BMW announced most of its electric cars would be made in China. The investment is expected to be used to make the plant fit for making electric vehicles, with all Minis set to be electric by 2030. «Today's announcement by BMW, coming a week after electric vehicle production started at Stellantis's site at Ellesmere Port, clearly shows that the government's plan for the automotive sector is working,» said Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch.
