Taiwan's president says open to working with China on 'peace'
Taiwan's president said Sunday he was still open to working with China on building "mutual understanding and reconciliation", days after Beijing launched military drills around the self-ruled island in response to his inauguration speech. President Lai Ching-te was sworn into office on Monday, and China — which claims democratic Taiwan as part of its territory and regards Lai as a «dangerous separatist» — launched military games around the island three days later. Fighter jets, naval vessels and coast guard ships encircled Taiwan until Friday night, which Chinese military analysts said was to practice seizing it.

China's large-scale military drills around Taiwan could become regular, warn US experts
Joint Sword-2024A military exercise around Taiwan, US experts analysed that Beijing has an intent to make large-scale military drills around the island a regular move with the China Coast Guard (CCG) to play a more important role in a blockade, reported Focus Taiwan. Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a think tank in Washington, issued an article, where Bonny Lin, head of the CSIC's China Power Project, and fellow researcher Brian Hart analysed the two-day Joint Sword-2024A, which was launched on Thursday, three days after President Lai Ching-te was sworn in on Monday. Joint Sword-2024A was the third round of large-scale military exercises China has staged around Taiwan in recent years.

It’s three steps forward and two steps back for FII flows in Indian, Asian markets, says Manishi Raychaudhuri
Manishi Raychaudhuri, Veteran Investor In Asian Equities, says for global investors’ focus to come back sustainably in emerging markets, the rate narrative and the US dollar narrative has to change. Till then, we would possibly see this three steps forward and two steps back as far as the FII flows into India and other Asian markets are concerned. There are enough opportunities in India in sectors like capital goods, industrials and power which hitherto had not performed and some FIIsfund managers have moved into midcaps and even smallcap spaces. There was a weakish patch barely a week or 10 days ago when the market corrected from 23,000 to 21,800 odd. At that time, a narrative got built that China and Hong Kong markets have started to look very attractive versus India, so some money went there. But right now, we are back at life highs. Can India afford to do well despite some flows going to China? Manishi Raychaudhuri: I would think so.

Not booking any profits now; more money coming in which have to be put to work: Mark Mobius
Mark Mobius, Chairman, Mobius Emerging Opportunities Fund, says that there are lots of steam left in the global market, and we are seeing a lot more interest in equities globally, particularly in the US, and that helps India as well because if people are making a lot of money in the US, they want to diversify globally. They want to put their eggs in more baskets. And one of the most important baskets now is India. Mobius further says that India is a huge market and there are lots of opportunities for global investors. They are going to take advantage of that opportunity. I wanted to glean out a bit because overall we have seen that there has been a shift towards China as well because the valuations there were fairly comfortable. For you, I see that it is still one of the least preferred countries in terms of your geographical portfolio breakdown. What is the thesis there? Are you looking at perhaps increasing the weights in China and even the US for that matter is fairly underweight at just 9%? Mark Mobius: Yes, we are looking at China again now and you have seen that the Hong Kong market has had a pretty good recovery.

India is the third largest audiobook market in the world after the US and China, according to Statista.

‘India and China hindering ‘Pillar 1’ tax deal,’ says US Treasury's Janet Yellen
Janet Yellen stated on Friday that she is working to save a component of the global corporate tax agreement targeting highly profitable multinational corporations, and added that “India is refusing to engage on issues important to US interests".Yellen told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of a G7 finance leaders meeting in Italy that China also has been “all but absent" in the negotiations to finalize “Pillar 1" of the OECD corporate tax deal reached in principle in 2021 that involves 140 countries."We are actively engaged in this negotiation," to meet an end-June deadline for the deal, Yellen told Reuters. “We're committed to doing everything we possibly can to make it work."Also Read: Yellen ‘Feeling Good’ About G-7 Alignment on Russian AssetsEarlier on Friday, Italian Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti told reporters that the Pillar 1 negotiations were set to fail, citing objections from the U.S., India and China. The Pillar 1 negotiations primarily focus on redistributing the taxing authority concerning US-based digital giants, potentially enabling around $200 billion of corporate profits to be taxed in the nations where these companies operate. In addition to Pillar 1, the tax deal includes a second pillar involving the implementation of a 15% global minimum tax on corporate profits, which many countries are independently adopting.

Hence, the Chinese researchers used a different virus called vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), to carry Ebola glycoprotein which plays a crucial role in helping the virus enter and infect cells of its host. The researchers said that when they harvested the organs of the dead hamsters, they noted that the deadly virus was spread throughout their body, including the heart, spleen, lung, kidney, stomach, intestines and brain tissues, with the highest levels in the liver.Researchers further noted that the experiment provided a rapid preclinical evaluation of medical countermeasures against Ebola under BLS-2 conditions.
