Layoff packages were seven times the norm, says General Motors as workers begin an indefinite chain hunger strike
General Motors on Monday maintained that it has done everything possible to resolve amicably the deadlock with workers at its now-closed India factory near Pune, including offering compensation at seven times the statutory requirement, even as more than 1,000 sacked workers began an indefinite chain hunger strike. The striking former workers are protesting unemployment and their non-absorption by Hyundai Motor India, which has signed an initial agreement to acquire the Talegaon facility. The American automaker is now keen on signing the final agreement with Hyundai Motor India, a spokesperson at GM said. «Everyone previously employed by General Motors at the Talegaon plant has been legally separated from GM and were offered a separation package more than seven times the statutory requirement.

General Motors India’s retrenched workers to sit on an indefinite chain hunger strike
General Motors India have threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike from October 2 to protest their alleged non-absorption by Hyundai Motor India, the proposed new owner of the car manufacturing plant near Pune. The workers under the banner of the General Motors Employee Union (GMEU) are demanding that they be absorbed by the factory’s new owner. The hunger strike may further delay finalising a commercial agreement between Hyundai, which has its growth plans for the Indian market hinged on the Talegaon facility and the US automaker. The local arm of the Korean automaker signed a term sheet with GM for a potential buyout of the Talegaon plant near Pune on March 13. A final deal is subject to meeting certain conditions including obtaining regulatory approvals from relevant government authorities and all stakeholders. A spokesperson for Hyundai Motor India said the company doesn’t have any fresh update on the deal with GM, adding that the commercial agreement is still to be signed.

Steven Tyler's band Aerosmith delays 2023 tour to 2024. This is what happened
Aerosmith has postponed their 2023 tour to the following year due to a severe vocal injury sustained by Steven Tyler. Initially diagnosed as «bleeding vocal cords,» Tyler's condition has now been revealed to be more critical than initially thought. In a statement released on social media, the band disclosed that Tyler fractured his larynx, necessitating ongoing medical attention. Although he is receiving top-notch care, the nature of the fracture requires patience. Following Tyler's vocal injury, six tour dates were rescheduled to 2024, starting in January and concluding in late February. These concerts were originally planned for Detroit, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Toronto, Raleigh and Cleveland. The band's earlier expectation of returning by October 11 has been dashed. The band has indicated that new dates will be announced once more information becomes available. All previously purchased tickets will be honored at the rescheduled concerts, and refunds will be offered to those unable to attend the yet-to-be-announced new dates. Tyler also shared a personal message, expressing his heartbreak at not being able to perform with Aerosmith and the Black Crowes, but promising a swift return to the stage. Similarly, Bruce Springsteen has had to postpone all of his September shows due to struggles with peptic ulcer disease. His representatives stated that Springsteen is undergoing treatment and that the tour dates, originally set to conclude in mid-December, are being postponed out of an abundance of caution. Currently, the only concerts on Springsteen's schedule are a series of rescheduled shows in Philadelphia next August.
