Basketball: Sabrina Ionescu smashes NBA, WNBA records, wins three-point contest
Sabrina Ionescu smashed the records of the NBA and WNBA in the three-point contest on Friday and won the crown. The New York Liberty’s point guard Sabrina Ionescu created history when she scored 37 out of 40 possible points by hitting 25 out of 27 possible shots. She sunk the NBA record of 31 set by Steph Curry in 2021 and Tyrese Haliburton in 2023. Besides, she also smashed the WNBA record of 30 set by Allie Quigley in 2022. Reacting to the feat, Allie Quigley congratulated Sabrina calling it ‘unbelievable.’ Steph Curry called it ‘ridiculous.’ There can be no higher compliment when basketball superstars like Quigley and Curry say this. Seattle Storm’s Sami Whitcomb who came second with 22 points and Dallas Wings’ Arike Ogunbowale who finished third with 11 points came nowhere near Sabrina and they cannot be compared. In the game of a three-point contest, players take five shots from five different locations around the three-point line. They also make two attempts from a deeper range. Each rack has four balls, and each ball has one point. The multi-colored ball has two points. A player gets three points for a deeper shot. Each player must choose one rack and the five balls have two points. Sabrina hit each of her chosen balls.Sabrina Ionescu will participate in the 2023 WNBA All-Star game at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas. Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson, Indiana Fever’s Aliyah Boston, and Phoenix Mercury’s Brittney Griner may also take part in the game.

Loch Ness monster-like dinosaur skeletons may fetch $800K at New York auction
dinosaur skeletons — one a fierce flying reptile of the kind seen in the «Jurassic Park» movies and the other evocative of the Loch Ness monster — will be auctioned off this month in New York, Sotheby's said Tuesday. The latter, called Nessie after the legendary elusive beast plying the depths of a Scottish lake, is estimated to draw between $600,000 and $800,000, Sotheby's said. A kind of dinosaur called a plesiosaur, it was last auctioned in Paris in 2010 and at the time had come from a private museum in Germany. The remains, which are nearly 11 feet (3.4 meters) long, were found in a quarry in England in 1990. The skeleton is about 75 per cent complete and in exceptional condition, said Cassandra Hotton, Sotheby's head of Science and Popular Culture. With its small head, long neck and flippers, the plesiosaur lived in the Lower Jurassic period about 190 million years ago. «The history of the Plesiosaur is also intertwined with the elusive Loch Ness monster of Scottish folklore, as many have drawn morphological comparisons between the Plesiosaur and the infamous 'Nessie,' whose sightings stretch back to the sixth century,» Sotheby's said in a news release.

Salman Rushdie speaks of 'crazy dreams' about knife attack in New York
Salman Rushdie has spoken for the first time about having «crazy dreams» following the near-fatal knife attack on him in New York in August last year, which has left the Mumbai-born author blind in one eye, and working with a therapist to help him process the mental impact of the trauma. The 76-year-old Booker Prize-winning author was on stage almost a year ago when he was stabbed up to 10 times by the suspect Hadi Matar, who is being held in prison for attempted murder. Speaking to the BBC this week, Rushdie said he was in «two minds» about whether to face his alleged attacker, who has pleaded not guilty, in court.
