Russian missile and drone attacks hit thermal and hydro power plants in central and western Ukraine, power grid operator Ukrenergo said on Friday, the latest assault on the already damaged power infrastructure. «During the night, the Russians struck again at energy facilities in a massive and combined attack,» Ukrenergo said on the Telegram messaging app.

The bombardment follows a week of increased long-range attacks across Ukraine, including a missile strike on a Ukrainian military academy and hospital Tuesday in the city of Poltava that killed 55 people and wounded 328 more.

Ukraine received a setback when Russian forces rained down its famous Iskander M ballistic missiles. These missiles destroyed two S-400 air defense systems of Ukraine. This happened in the Poltava region of Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry published footages of this incident. Russia is increasingly using these missiles and it is believed to be the fourth strike on Ukraine in a span of six days. It has also been reported that Ukraine has adopted a well-known war tactic of using decoys to engage with the Russians. The latter would be tricked into striking dummy models without sustaining any major damages.

Russia has fired at least 24 North Korean ballistic missiles at Ukraine since Dec. 30, in strikes that have largely missed relevant military targets and killed at least 14 civilians, Ukrainian authorities said on Friday. Andriy Kostin, Ukraine's prosecutor general, said a preliminary assessment enabled Kyiv to ascertain the ballistic missiles were from North Korea, and of the KN-23/24 series, the latest in an array of missiles used by Russia for air strikes. The Kremlin has neither denied nor confirmed its use of North Korean-made missiles and ammunition.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has directed Valeriy Zaluzhny to dismiss all heads of regional territorial centers for recruitment and social support. The decision was announced on the official Facebook page of the President's Office of Ukraine.
