Gulf war: Is the US-Israel-Iran ceasefire a pause or tactical turning point?
The US-Iran ceasefire, framed as a two-week conditional truce, offers relief but is less of a resolution than a pause in a fast-escalating crisis. It follows nearly 40 days of sustained US-Israeli military pressure on Iran, itself an extension of the unresolved tensions that persisted after the 2025 Iran-Israel confrontation. In that sense, this ceasefire is simply a momentary recalibration in a longer strategic contest. At its core, the arrangement reflects a transactional bargain.

Iran has rejected direct negotiations with US in response to Trump's letter
However, such talks have made no progress since Trump in his first term unilaterally withdrew America from Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers in 2018. In the years since, regional tensions have boiled over into attacks at sea and on land. Then came the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip, which saw Israel target militant group leaders across Iran's self-described «Axis of Resistance». Now, as the US conducts intense airstrikes targeting the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels of Yemen, the risk of military action targeting Iran's nuclear programme remains on the table. «We don't avoid talks; it's the breach of promises that has caused issues for us so far,» Pezeshkian said in televised remarks during a Cabinet meeting. «They must prove that they can build trust.»

Iran planning to deliver hundreds of ballistic missiles to Russia? US deeply concerned
Iran is preparing to supply Russia with hundreds of ballistic missiles. State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel emphasised on Monday that if this transfer occurs, it would mark a significant escalation. On Friday, Reuters reported that dozens of Russian military personnel are being trained in Iran to use the Fath-360 close-range ballistic missile system, according to two European intelligence sources. They added that they expected the imminent delivery of hundreds of the satellite-guided weapons to Russia for its war in Ukraine. According to the report, Russian defence ministry representatives are believed to have signed a contract on Dec. 13 in Tehran with Iranian officials for the Fath-360 and another ballistic missile system built by Iran's government-owned Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO) called the Ababil.

Iran to deliver hundreds of ballistic missiles to Russia soon, intel sources say
Iran to use the Fath-360 close-range ballistic missile system, two European intelligence sources told Reuters, adding that they expected the imminent delivery of hundreds of the satellite-guided weapons to Russia for its war in Ukraine. Russian defence ministry representatives are believed to have signed a contract on Dec. 13 in Tehran with Iranian officials for the Fath-360 and another ballistic missile system built by Iran's government-owned Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO) called the Ababil, said the two intelligence officials, who requested anonymity in order to discuss sensitive matters. Citing multiple confidential intelligence sources, the officials said that Russian personnel have visited Iran to learn how to operate the Fath-360 defence system, which launches missiles with a maximum range of 120 km (75 miles) and a warhead of 150 kg. One of the sources said that that «the only next possible» step after training would be actual delivery of the missiles to Russia.
