The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded southeast Michigan to the ENHANCED (3 out of 5) risk category for severe storms. During the early afternoon, a few showers and storms are expected to develop and move through the area. Following these isolated cells, a strong cold front will move in, and along and ahead of this frontal boundary, potent storm activity is likely to form. The main risks associated with any storms reaching severe limits will be damaging wind gusts and hail. Although flooding is less likely due to the storms' quick motion, heavy downpours may cause ponding on area roads. There is a possibility that if a storm becomes a supercell, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Currently, we have a 2% elevated risk for a spin-up tornado according to the Storm Prediction Center.
