Trai pushes for spectrum sharing among telcos in bid to promote optimum resource utilisation
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has recommended the use of active and passive infrastructure sharing among telecom service licensees, in a bid to promote optimum resource utilisation. The regulator Wednesday also recommended inter-band spectrum sharing between service providers in a licensed service area (LSA), along with suggesting exploring the possibility of allowing service providers to access globally harmonised spectrum bands assigned to government agencies or other non-telecom entities through authorised shared access (ASA) technique-based spectrum-sharing. The authority also recommended conditions for spectrum sharing, trading and leasing, which has been permitted under the new Telecommunications Act, 2023.

Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), intending applicants have given indifferent response to application under CAA in Assam’s Barak valley. People are more concerned about getting their names cleared from the foreigner’s tribunal and abolition of detention camps. Two seats of the Barak valley Silchar and Barak valley are going to polls on April 26 and CAA outcome is not engaging the voters. In Assam CAA has its proponents and opposition. Barak valley is believed to be a place where there are proponents of CAA. The Centre had in March implemented the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, notifying the rules four years after the law was passed by Parliament to fast-track citizenship for undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014.

RBI urges more caution from banks on curbing unauthorised forex transactions
banks to exercise more vigilance when it comes to preventing the misuse of traditional banking channels in enabling unauthorised trading in foreign exchange. The central bank said in a notification on Wednesday that it has come across instances of unauthorised entities offering foreign exchange trading facilities to individuals with promises of disproportionate and exorbitant returns. Upon investigation, the RBI found that in order to facilitate such unauthorized foreign exchange trading, these entities have engaged local agents who then open accounts at different bank branches to collect money for margins, investments, and charges.

French pet food maker Royal Canin opens new plant in Maharashtra with ₹100 crore investment
Royal Canin, the French pet food maker, on Wednesday said it has opened Asia's second-largest fully operational packaging plant in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra with an investment of ₹100 crore. The new packaging center, which is Royal Canin’s first facility in India, will have automatic packing machines and associated utilities installed for conversion of bulk products into retail packs catering to Indian pet owners requirements. The company didn't rule out the possibility of exports from the facility in future. «India is a place where the pet food category is emerging, we believe it is going to continue to grow. The plant will help us localise and have a more flexible approach towards the market,» Cecile Coutens, global president of Royal Canin told ET.
