China urges largest nuclear states to negotiate a 'no-first-use' treaty
nuclear weapons against each other or make a political statement in this regard, the Chinese foreign ministry's arms control department said. Director general of the department, Sun Xiaobo, called on nuclear states to fulfil their «special and priority responsibilities» on nuclear disarmament according to the U.N. Conference on Disarmament, which seeks to prevent nuclear war, official news agency Xinhua said on Wednesday. During the forum's weekly meeting in Geneva on Monday, Sun said the body should define a roadmap or timetable for an international legal instrument that would protect non-nuclear-weapon states from the threat of nuclear weapons.

Taxman to step aside for banks in bankruptcy waterfall
New Delhi: The taxman will defer to secured creditors such as banks while sharing the proceeds of a bankruptcy rescue, two people aware of the government’s plans said. The Centre will amend the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) to unambiguously state that tax authorities will be below secured creditors having a charge on the assets of a corporate borrower in hierarchy while distributing the proceeds, the people cited above said on condition of anonymity. This is a key proposal in the amendments to the IBC that the ministry of corporate affairs has prepared in consultation with the sector’s rule maker Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI).

New Delhi/Mumbai: India plans to seek a four-year delay in the start date of the European Union’s contentious carbon tax to provide more breathing space to its exporting industries, multiple people aware of the matter said. Under the EU’s carbon control regime that kicks off in 2026, emissions should be reduced 2.5% in the first year and reduced every year after that, and eliminated by 2034. There are different targets set for every year and the current plan aims to reduce emissions by 48.5% by 2030.

Takeda Pharmaceutical is holding talks with Indian regulators to make its dengue vaccine available in the country, the drugmaker's global head of vaccines, Gary Dubin, told Reuters on Tuesday. «We are in talks with regulators and plan to start a clinical trial very soon,» said Dubin. The Japanese drugmaker plans to scale up the production of its dengue vaccine Qdenga through a partnership with Indian vaccine maker Biological E., the companies said earlier in the day.
