Confident of win in Jharkhand, Maharashtra but 'watchful' of Haryana-like 'mischief' by BJP: Jairam Ramesh
Congress is confident of securing a decisive mandate in Jharkhand and Maharashtra but is «extra watchful» to avoid a repeat of any Haryana-like «last-minute mischief» by the BJP and the local administration, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh said on Monday. In an interview with PTI, Ramesh said the decision on the chief ministerial face of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra would be taken after the November 23 results and expressed confidence that the selection of the alliance's chief ministerial face would be a «smooth affair». As the campaign heats up for the assembly polls in Jharkhand and Maharashtra, Ramesh dismissed suggestions that the momentum had shifted away from the INDIA bloc following the Congress' defeat in Haryana and said the alliance was confident of securing a decisive mandate in the two states. «It is true that the result in Haryana was unexpected as far as the Congress is concerned. We are confident in Maharashtra where we have a very strong alliance, and we are very confident in Jharkhand where also we are fighting in an alliance,» the Congress general secretary in-charge communications said.

What led to the Khalistani attack on Canada's Hindu temple?
Canada's Brampton on Sunday has sparked off widespread outrage. The attack is part of a long campaign by Khalistanis to browbeat the Hindu community in Canada. It adds to a series of such incidents in recent years. Earlier, a Hindu temple in Windsor suffered defacement with anti-India graffiti. Earlier incidents in Mississauga and Brampton saw temples similarly targeted, drawing strong reactions from the Indian community in Canada. Last year in December, gunshots were fired at the residence of the son of Satish Kumar, the president of Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey. Khalistanis targeted a consular camp for senior citizens

CIL should prioritise augmenting coal production, supplies to reduce import: Minister
CIL's priorities should be to ramp up production of coal and scale up supplies to reduce imports, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has said. Coal India Ltd (CIL) accounts for over 80 per cent of domestic coal output. Speaking at CIL's 50th Foundation Day on Sunday, the minister stressed upon the importance of miners' welfare and the rehabilitation of communities affected by mine closures. «Contractual workers play a significant role in Coal India's output, and I applaud the management's decision to implement Performance Linked Incentives for them, effective FY 2023-24,» he was quoted as saying in a coal ministry statement. The launch of commercial coal mining has led to transparency, ease of doing business and investment opportunities, helping open the coal sector.
