NTT DATA launches AI upskilling programme for all employees
NTT DATA on Thursday announced a Generative AI (GenAI) Talent Development Framework to impart training to all its employees worldwide. India houses more than 40,000 of NTT DATA’s employees, the most outside the home base for the Japanese company with a headcount of about 200,000. “With the rapid advancement of generative AI, talent development has become a social imperative. By utilising the framework we have established, we can effectively cultivate highly skilled professionals,” chief executive Yutaka Sasaki said.

Telecom companies seek cut in license fee
telecom industry has demanded that the license fee paid by them to the government should be reduced to 0.5% to 1% of the gross revenues, from the current 8%, as the circumstances and regime have changed for the industry. The industry said a reduction in fees would facilitate telcos to plough the revenues back to the network for upgradation and expansion, which will enable digital inclusion. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), which counts all the three private telecom operators –Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea –as its members, said, payments made basis the AGR (adjusted gross revenue) need to be reconsidered under the changed regime and circumstances. Telcos pay an 8% license fee to the government, which includes a 5% universal service obligation (USO) levy.

Govt aims to develop 50 more airports in 5 years: Aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu
K Rammohan Naidu on Thursday said the government aims to set up 50 more airports in the next five years and pitched for further developing the country's airport ecosystem that will also help in boosting job creation. In the last 10 years, the number of airports has doubled to 157. Naidu said that 50 more airports are expected to be developed in the next five years and 200 more in the next 20 years. The minister was speaking after inaugurating the Airbus India and South Asia Headquarters — Training Centre in the national capital.

WFI withdraws India from World Championship, writes to UWW about govt interference
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Wednesday withdrew the Indian team from the World Championship, conveying to world governing body, UWW, that the sports ministry is interfering with its autonomy. The senior World Championship in 12 non-Olympic categories is scheduled to be held in Tirana, Albania from October 28. The WFI had recently announced selection trials for the U23 and World Championship, which was challenged as contempt of court by the protesting wrestlers who questioned the legality of the selection by the suspended federation. WFI withdrew the selection trials notice and the court, on October 4, decided not to proceed with the contempt petition.

NASA sends key equipment for ISRO's NISAR mission: All you need to know about the satellite launching next year
NASA has delivered a crucial component for the NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The radar antenna reflector, essential for the mission, arrived in Bengaluru on October 23, 2024. This reflector plays a key role in focusing microwave signals sent to and from Earth’s surface, allowing NISAR to scan almost all of the planet’s land and ice surfaces every 12 days to gather scientific data. After its arrival aboard a NASA C-130 cargo plane, the radar antenna was transported to ISRO’s Spacecraft Integration and Test Establishment for reintegration with the NISAR spacecraft. The satellite is scheduled for further testing in preparation for its launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on India’s southeastern coast in early 2025. NASA and ISRO will coordinate to finalize the official launch date.
