Europe's economy grows a bit after months of stagnation, but rate hikes are weighing on businesses
Europe's economy has grown modestly after months of stagnation, but higher interest rates designed to fight inflation are casting a shadow as they make it more expensive for households and businesses to borrow, invest and spend. The 20 countries that use the euro currency and their 346 million people saw 0.3% growth in the April-to-June period, compared with the first three months of the year, the EU statistics agency Eurostat reported Monday. That's an improvement over zero growth in the first quarter and a slight decline in fourth quarter of last year — but not by much.

Australia surged into the Women's World Cup last 16 on Monday with Hayley Raso scoring twice in a 4-0 battering of Canada as Nigeria joined them in the knockout phase. Olympic champions Canada were dumped out at the hands of a fired-up Australian team who knew they had to win in Melbourne to progress. They did it in style, their big victory putting them through as Group B winners, meaning they will probably avoid European champions England in the next round.

Sony announces major PS5 price drop in multiple countries. Here are all details
Sony has rolled out a substantial price cut for its highly sought-after PlayStation 5 console in several countries, including the UK, Ireland and Germany. The company aims to make the gaming experience more accessible to enthusiasts, with a markdown of approximately 16 per cent on the standard PS5 model. In the UK, gamers can now get their hands on the PS5 for £399.99, down from its regular price of £479.99. Notably, it was launched at £449.99. The promotional offer is available immediately in the UK and will run until August 10. Germany is also partaking in the price drop, with a discount of €75 on the PS5. Amazon Germany, in particular, is offering an even more attractive price of €459.99, significantly below the regular €549.99 pricing, until August 7. It extends to Ireland and Austria, where consumers can save €75. The timing of these price drop promotions coincides with Sony's announcement of a major milestone. The company has successfully sold 40 million PS5 units since the console's initial launch in 2020. This surge in sales can be attributed to the increased shipments in the current year. Sony revealed that it tripled the number of consoles shipped from January to March, reaching 6.3 million units as opposed to 2 million during the same period the previous year.

Soccer: Nigeria shock hosts Australia 3-2 at Women's World Cup
Asisat Oshoala volleyed into an open goal in the 72nd minute to seal a deserved win for the Africans after Uchenna Kanu cancelled out Emily van Egmond's opener on the cusp of halftime and Osinachi Ohale nudged Nigeria ahead after the break. Australia cut the deficit to one goal when Alanna Kennedy nodded home a header in the 10th minute of stoppage time but Nigeria rode out the final seconds to claim one of the finest wins in their history at the global showpiece.
