Rescuers are searching for miners in two areas of the mine 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) apart, it said. On Saturday, operator ArcelorMittal Temirtau, the local unit of Luxembourg-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal, said 206 of 252 people at the Kostenko mine had been evacuated after what appeared to be a methane blast. The Ministry for Emergency Situations said it was still monitoring the gas situation at the mine.

Kazakhstan has started the process of acquiring ArcelorMittal SA's local business after dozens died in a fire at the company's mine on Saturday. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered the government to stop investment cooperation with ArcelorMittal Temirtau after the accident at the Kostenko mine near the city of Karaganda, Interfax reported. The government said on Saturday that it has reached a preliminary agreement with the shareholders of ArcelorMittal Temirtau and is preparing the transaction to transfer ownership of the enterprise in favor of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The October 25-October 26 meeting in the Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek will be attended by the heads of governments of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the Vice-President of Iran, and the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan. «In Bishkek, the external affairs minister will also meet with his counterparts from other SCO member states and call on the country's top leadership,» the MEA statement read. SCO observer States including Belarus and Mongolia as well as guest state Turkmenistan will also attend the meeting. The CHG is the second-highest forum in SCO.
