LTTE, a Sri Lankan rebel group commonly known as the Tamil Tigers. This decision was prompted by the group's involvement in violent activities and its aim for an independent Tamil state in Sri Lanka, which posed a threat to India's national security. The ban was part of a broader international effort, as many other countries also proscribed the Tamil Tigers due to their use of terrorism tactics.

Charting the global economy: BOE sends clearest sign yet of interest-rate cuts
Bank of England sent its clearest signal yet that it was closing in on interest-rate cuts, with Governor Andrew Bailey indicating markets were underpricing the pace of easing in the months ahead. The BOE governor made his comments after the UK central bank voted 7-2 to keep the base interest rate at 5.25%, a decision announced Thursday in London. He said recent inflation data have been “encouraging.” Meanwhile, price pressures in Brazil continued to ease, prompting the central bank to cut interest rates but at a slower pace.

Americans poll better in India than Americans do in America, says US Ambassador Eric Garcetti
[Indians] do that are better than us [Americans]." He said that during election times in India, there are people who check trucks to make sure that nobody has cash going around. "There's probably walk-in money, as they call it in some cities here in the United States, Philadelphia, that's like a tradition where cash kind of gets you votes and things like that. So, I've been impressed with certain things they do that are better than us," the US diplomat was quoted by PTI as saying.

Missile defence successes in Gulf, Ukraine fuel global urgency to acquire systems
ballistic missile defences facing their first complex, high-stakes combat scenarios in Israel, the Red Sea and Ukraine will encourage militaries globally to invest in the pricey systems, experts say — and intensify missile arms races. Iran launched as many as 120 intermediate-range ballistic missiles at Israel on April 13, U.S. and Israeli officials say. U.S. SM-3 and Israeli Arrow interceptors destroyed nearly all of them, leaving drones and smaller threats to the Iron Dome system. In previous months, interceptors fired from U.S. Navy destroyers stopped Houthi anti-ship ballistic missiles, while in Ukraine, U.S.-made MIM-104 Patriot batteries have shot down advanced Russian Iskander and Khinzal missiles.

For this soccer team, every game is a road game
The miracle of Ukraine’s most dominant soccer club over the past decade isn’t so much its continued success while the country has been at war. Nor is it the team’s reconstruction after losing all of its foreign players. The real surprise for Shakhtar Donetsk, based in the Donbas region of Eastern Ukraine, is that it has kept winning despite not playing a single home game since 2014.
