Vitali Klitschko said the city was under missile attack on Sunday with explosions in the Ukrainian capital, two days after a Russian missile killed 18 people in President Volodymyr Zelensky's hometown. Klitschko said paramedics had been sent to two districts in Kyiv, while the Ukrainian air force said missiles had entered the northern Chernihiv region. «Explosions in the capital. Air defence is in operation,» Klitschko said on Telegram. «The missile attack on Kyiv continues. Stay in shelters!» He added that three people were injured so far, and said there was reported wreckage falling in two non-residential sites.

drone attack overnight damaged equipment at energy facilities in Ukraine's southern Odesa region, the national grid company Ukrenergo said on Friday via the Telegram messaging app. Separately, the Ukrainian military said its air defence had shot down four drones used overnight in attacks targeting the region's energy infrastructure. Ukraine's air force said it also shot down nine Russian drones overnight targeting the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Russia also used two S-300/S-400 missiles and three Iskander-M ballistic missiles in its attack, it said.

KYIV (Reuters) -A man was killed and at least eight people were wounded in a Russian missile attack on the Black Sea port city of Mykolaiv on Sunday, Ukrainian officials said, after an overnight strike on Odesa on the last day of Russia's presidential election.

Russian drone crashed into a residential building in the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa late Friday, killing one person and severely injuring at least three others, authorities said. Ukraine's military confirmed the drone was one of five it downed over the Odesa region amid a wave of nighttime aerial assaults. «One of the downed drones crashed into a residential area of Odesa, causing destruction and a fire in an Odesa courtyard,» defence officials posted on Telegram.

Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft on Friday on the southern front, hailing it as a success in the 22-month-old war. The Russian military made no mention of the incident. But Russian bloggers acknowledged the loss, and analysts suggested U.S.-supplied Patriot missiles had probably been used. Reuters could not independently confirm the reports. «Today at noon in the southern sector — minus three Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers!» Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk wrote on the Telegram messaging app. Air Force spokesperson Yuri Ihnat described it on national television as a «brilliantly planned operation.» «There haven't been Su-34s for some time in our positive statistics,» he said, citing the model as one of Russia's most modern aircraft for bombing and other assaults. Zelenskiy in his nightly video address praised the Odesa region anti-aircraft unit for downing the planes in Kherson region. The region was occupied in the first days of Moscow's February 2022 invasion.

Zelenskyy announced on his official Telegram account, writing that new leadership was needed after Reznikov went through "more than 550 days of full-scale war." In a night address, the Ukrainian President added that he believes “that the Ministry needs new approaches and different formats of interaction both with the military and with society." “The Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine is well acquainted with this person, and Umerov does not require additional introductions. I expect support for this candidacy from parliament," Zelenskyy added.

Danube River port infrastructure that is critical to Ukraine's grain exports, injuring at least two people in the attack on southern parts of the Odesa region on Sunday, Ukrainian officials said. The Danube has become Ukraine's main route for exporting grain since July, when Russia quit a U.N. and Turkey-brokered deal that had given safe passage to Kyiv's exports of grains, oilseeds and vegetables oils via the Black Sea. Sunday's attack took place the day before Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan are due to hold talks in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi. Turkey has been pressing to revive the grain deal. Ukraine's South Military Command said on social media that at least two civilians were injured in the early morning attack on what it called «civil infrastructure of the Danube». Ukrainian former military official was detained on Monday for suspected corruption following reports his family bought real estate worth millions of dollars in Spain after the Russian invasion.Yevgen Borisov was in charge of mobilisation and conscription in the southern Odesa region until his dismissal in late June. Investigators in May accused Borisov of accepting bribes in return for exempting some people from being mobilised in the army.Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation, which probes high-level corruption, said Borisov had been detained in Kyiv in a joint operation with the prosecutor general's office.
