North Korea’s aid to Russia raises difficult questions in China
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Officials from China have avoided direct comment on North Korea’s despatch of thousands of troops to Russia, where they might help in a conflict that all three countries see as a contest against overweening American might. China itself is a crucial if undeclared backer of Russia’s war effort in Ukraine, providing technological support for Russia’s defence industries.

Zelenskyy urges export controls, says Russian drones use components from China, Europe, US
Zelenskyy sounded the alarm on Russia's escalating attacks, revealing that more than 2,000 Shahed drones and missiles utilising Western components were launched against Ukraine in October alone. Zelenskyy further stressed the urgent need for enhanced export controls to prevent sanctions evasion and said that Russia's supply chain relies on over 1,70,000 individual components from firms in China, Europe, and the United States. Sharing a post on X, Zelenskyy wrote, «Russia is gradually ramping up its daily attacks with Shahed drones and missiles, still using Western components to do so. In October alone, over 2,000 Shaheds were launched against Ukraine--almost every single day.»

Canada names India in cyberthreat list, accuses it of 'likely' spying
«We assess that Indian state-sponsored cyber threat actors likely conduct cyber threat activity against Government of Canada networks for the purpose of espionage,» the report said. The development comes as the bilateral relationship has gone south since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said a year ago that Canada had credible evidence that agents of the Indian government were involved in the murder of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June 2023, a charge dismissed as absurd by India.

One week before U.S elections, polling Nostradamus Allan Lichtman says, Harris will win the race for the White House
In a recent YouTube episode, Lichtman spoke about the unusually high level of election anxiety surrounding this race, comparing it to elections he’s followed since the 1960s. He attributes the tension to public fears about the future of American democracy and deep divisions over the country’s direction, remarking that he has personally faced unprecedented hostility and threats throughout this election season.

Donald Trump’s man in Europe gambles on return of his American ally
Viktor Orban made his loyalties clear when he landed in Georgia this week. As protesters disputed an election victory for its pro-Russian leadership, Hungary’s prime minister congratulated the country for choosing not to become the next Ukraine. The trip to Tbilisi was a bold move, even for a leader who has made no secret of his coziness with Russia and disregard for the European Union. But with all eyes now on voting in the US, the timing was as important as the optics. A win for his ally Donald Trump on Tuesday could make Orban the go-to person in Europe for the next US president, according to a person familiar with the thinking in Budapest. And with Russia’s war in Ukraine, Europe’s security and trade relations with China all in flux, Orban is relishing that prospect.

North Korea says will stand by Russia until 'victory' in Ukraine
North Korea will stand by Russia until its victory in Ukraine, Pyongyang's foreign minister said in Moscow Friday, as the United States warned thousands of North Korean troops could be sent to combat in the Ukraine conflict in the coming days. North Korea's Choe Son Hui is on a visit to Moscow as the West believes up to 10,000 North Korean troops are on the brink of entering the more than two-year conflict on Russia's side. US intelligence has said some North Korean forces have made their way to Russia's Kursk border region, with Washington and Seoul urging Pyongyang to withdraw its troops.

US spy agencies issue new warning on Russia's election misinformation campaign
U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia is behind two new fabricated videos that appeared on social media this week falsely claiming that Haitians illegally voted in Georgia and that Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband received a $500,000 bribe from performer Sean Combs. The U.S. government issued a new warning about the fabrications Friday, a week after blaming Russia for another video that falsely claimed that ballots in Pennsylvania were being destroyed. Officials say foreign powers are working to undermine faith in the election, and government agencies in charge of protecting the vote on Tuesday have said the current torrent of false claims is greater than before. A senior official from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency called it a «fire hose of disinformation.»

North Korea will back Russia until victory in Ukraine, foreign minister says
North Korea will back Russia until it achieves victory in the Ukraine war, Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui said on Friday at talks in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. «Our traditional, historically friendly relations, which have travelled the tested path of history, today… are rising to a new level of relations of invincible military comradeship,» she told Lavrov, praising the role played in this by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. She said Pyongyang had no doubt that under Putin's «wise leadership» the Russian army and people would «achieve a great victory in their sacred struggle to protect the sovereign rights and security interests of their state.»

North Korea's Choe accuses US and South Korea of plotting a nuclear strike against her country
Choe Son Hui, in a Moscow meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, accused the United States and South Korea of plotting a nuclear strike against her country. She did not provide evidence to back her assertion, but spoke of regular consultations between Washington and Seoul at which she alleged such plotting took place. Choe, who said the situation on the Korean Peninsula could become «explosive» any moment, told Lavrov that North Korea needed to strengthen its nuclear arsenal and perfect its readiness to deliver a retaliatory nuclear strike if necessary.

Indian companies on global US sanctions list will not impact defence ecosystem
Indian companies sanctioned by the US as part of a global effort to crack down on supply of dual use items to Russia will not have a major impact on the domestic defence ecosystem as most of them are not linked to any major project. Only one of them has limited work with the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the armed forces. Out of the 19 Indian firms on the global list of 400 plus companies sanctioned, several are entities that seem to be just carrying out trading activities by purchasing western equipment including electronics and selling them to Russian companies that have been hit by western sanctions. Some of them, like Denvas Services, which mainly supplies digital kiosks for various services, also have Russian nationals as registered directors and shareholders. It is legal for Indian companies to have foreign nationals as directors and there are no sanctions on conducting work with Russian entities. The company has been accused of procuring US-origin microelectronics for use in its advanced Russian conventional weapons.

The Diplomat Season 2 finale: Who attacked Rayburn and does Kate Wyler become President? Spoilers
The Diplomat Season 2, the mastermind behind the HMS Courageous attack is revealed as none other than U.S. Vice President Grace Penn. The season unpacks layers of conspiracy, uncovering that the British far-right politician Lenny Stendig and Parliament member Merritt Grove were also involved, with CIA operative Margaret Roylin orchestrating much of the scheme. Working alongside Russian mercenary Roman Lenkov, this group launched a false-flag operation intending minor damage, but a supply issue led to using a powerful submarine missile, which caused more destruction than anticipated. The revelation positions Vice President Penn at the helm of a plan aimed at hindering Scotland’s independence, emphasizing a hidden motive—preserving Creagan, a vital U.S. nuclear base in Scotland.

US sanctions over 10 Indian entities among 275 for supporting Russia's military-industrial base
Department of Treasury said in a statement on Thursday. In addition to disrupting global evasion networks, this action also targets domestic Russian importers and producers of key inputs and other material for Russia's military-industrial base, the statement said. «The United States and our allies will continue to take decisive action across the globe to stop the flow of critical tools and technologies that Russia needs to wage its illegal and immoral war against Ukraine,» Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo said.

Russia shifts more funds to military in budget draft
Russian government is seeking to reallocate 7 trillion roubles ($72 billion) in its three-year budget draft, with a significant portion of the funds directed towards the military, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said on Thursday. The draft allocates 13.5 trillion roubles to the military in 2025, accounting for a third of total expenditure or 6.3% of GDP — the highest level since the Cold War. New amendments suggest that this figure could be even higher. For the first time, the share of spending on defence will be double that of social spending. Siluanov told a cabinet meeting that the government has prepared about 900 amendments to the draft.

USA sanctions on 10 Indian firms for allegedly aiding Russian military efforts; Sullivan speaks with Doval
Russian military. The announcement was made by US Treasury and State Departments in what they described as «third-country enablers”. However, there is no independent verification if these Indian firms were part of efforts to boost Russian military apparatus. “…The U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctioned 275 individuals and entities involved in supplying Russia with advanced technology and equipment that it desperately needs to support its war machine. Today’s action targets both individual actors and sprawling sanctions evasion networks across 17 jurisdictions, including India, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Switzerland, Thailand, and Türkiye,” according to the announcement.
